Can you use an electron microscope to crash a plane?

Apparently lost power on takeoff. Crashed into a medical academy. Damn.

How do you lose power to both engines? Doesn't seem like that should be possible...

    Complete power failure?

    Two birds, one stone?

Though doesn't seem like it was birds. There none in the video. The engines weren't smoking or anything.

The plane was just gliding aloft as it lost altitude.

You would think it it was power failure due to a system failure there would be some auxiliary system that would kick in.

    Idk.

The pilots were veterans. Years of experience and hours upon hours flying planes. It had to have been a mass failure in the planes systems.

Was kind of surprised they were able to get a mayday off in such a short time.

The engines should be completely separate from each other. Separate fuel lines, separate shut offs... It should be impossible for them both to fail at the same time without being actively disabled.

*Edit* To clarify, I don't know if that's the case on these jets, but it just seems like common sense.

The additional weight for having completely separate systems would have no impact on performance, and any added complexity could be easily mitigated.

The engines are designed with independent systems. Both failing is extremely rare. Like I said there are also auxillary systems to back those up.

When they do both fail, we would see the plane gliding like in the video till it loses complete altitude and crashes.

Generally, there would have to be a mass mechanical system failure, a lack of fuel, icing issues, or one engine dying and causing the other one to overwork and go out, or birds.

We saw duel engine failure with the Hudson incident.

A guy survived Air India. He said there was a loud noise, then the plane crashed.
