First of all, lemme just say that it was a very ugly game to watch. Not because we were really being dominated or anything like that, but because the Jets had so many opportunities to put points on the board or keep drives going and we didnt because of either Mental Mistakes or Penalties or Turnovers, or something stupid like that. Positives - Derrick Blaylock - Probably wrapped up the Starting Runningback job tonight. Another solid performance out of him. 35 yards on 9 rushes. Laveranues Coles - Very good reciever, made some plays last night, 5 receptions for 50 yards includeing one for 17 yards. Justin McCareins - Scary enough, he actually played a pretty good game last night. 2 receptions for 48 yards. First Team Defense - Did not give up any points until well into the second quarter. Eli Manning had looked confused at times, but after a while our trickery wore off the Giants offense started to do decent. I like our ability to confuse opposing offenses though as to exactly what we are doing on that particular play. Jonathan Vilma - One Word, Pimp.Erik Coleman - Nice Interception on his part.Kerry Rhodes - Going to have a breakout year. Great player, 6 tackles and a sack. Dewayne Robertson - Played DE almost entirely today, but showed those pass rushing skills that made him the 4th overall pick. He had a nice sack from the DE spot. If only we had a true Nose Tackle to go alongside him and Ellis.....Bryan Thomas - Another great game at OLB. Definately not a bust.Eric Barton - Another good game at LB. Justin Miller - He actually covered someone today. He had a costly taunting penalty, but I cant blame him for taunting that Jackass Amani Toomer after his comments. :whistling: Dave Ball - Another solid game at 3-4 DE. Looks like we got a steal when we picked him up last year for nothing. Darrell McClover - Had the Jets only touchdown on a Blocked Punt Return. Great special teams player.Ben Graham - Probably our best player, sadly, he's the punter.Special Teams (Minus Nugent) - Man, Westoff has them in high gear already, the Punt team looks great, We returned a kick last week, We blocked a punt this week. Give Westy an extension already.Played Decent - Chad Pennington - He was only a little over 50% completion percentage and threw an Interception which is why he was only decent, but this was the first game I really saw a few signs of the Pennington of old, which is good. For the first time in a while I saw him attempt a pass downfield. It wasnt exactly thrown with a ton of zip behind it but it was good enough to get the job done. He will likely be starting week one, but the major question is how long can he avoid injury.10 Possessions now, 0 Points. Does that not worry anybody else? Yes hes moving the chains, but hes not putting points up on the board.Kellen Clemens - Given a Mulligan because our Second Team Offensive Line made him the equivilant of a tackleing dummy back there where he didn't have time to finish his drop without having someone in his face constantly. But didn't play great himself either....Negatives - Penalties - Way too many, and the avoidable type. False Starts, Taunting, Doug Jolley headbutting a Giant, these arent the occasional screw-up. These are letting the Giants get in our heads and allowing us to make mental mistakes. This has to stop.Turnovers - Way too many. 2 Interceptions and a Fumble lost. Poor showing.Second Team Offensive Line - Flat-Out Terrible. They got Clemens killed last night and I think each and every one of them owes Clemens a fancy dinner after taking that beating. At least we learned our backup QB is durable. :ranting: Nose Tackle - Dewayne Robertson didnt get the job done and looks much better as a Defensive End. Kimo von Oelhoffen was getting pushed backwards also. We need to find someone capable of holding their own in there. Maybe give Tui the start next week and see how he does. Jerricho Cotchery - Not a single reception for a starting WR is bad, and I believe he dropped one also. Not exactly a good job of fighting off McCareins for your starting job.Kevan Barlow - 3 carries, 11 yards, 1 Fumble. He did look pretty good other then that Fumble breaking a tackle, but he needs to hold onto the ball especially since one of the reasons we acquired him was because Cedric Houston couldn't hold onto the ball. I'm giving him a bit of a mulligan since he only had 3 practices to learn the playbook and crap, but he's gotta do a better job. Doug Jolley - Made one catch and for 2 yards and had it taken backwards because he decided to headbutt Sam Madison. While that was F'n awesome, it cost us 15 yards. Good job Jolley. Otherwise he was invisible again.Mike Nugent - ........wasted a Second Round Pick on him and he can't even kick the ball 50 yards. He has to do better then that or he wont be playing in New York for long. It's kinda bad when you have to wonder who can get the ball further down the field, Pennington's arm or Nugent's leg.Mysteriously Absent - Patrick Ramsey, Brooks Bollinger, Cedric Houston, Ray Mickens. None of them even made it in the game as far as I saw. Guess the first wave of cuts is going to come from that group. Conclusion - The Jets Defense is capable of keeping us in many games, the Giants only managed one touchdown and that was because Justin Miller gave them a second chance with a stupid Taunting Penalty. Other then that, the Jets could have been looking at a very winnable 9-7 situation late in the Game. Even the 13-7 final score was winnable if our Offense could have gotten the job done. But the thing that kept on hurting us over and over and over again was the lack of execution on offense. We allowed 5 sacks for -37 yards and 5 penalties for -33 yards. We had 3 turnovers to the Giants one turnover. Those are the mistakes that fundamentally-sound football teams do not make and they are completely inexcuseable. That has to change and it has to change immediately. We cost ourselves the chance to come away with a Win in that game. Plain and Simple.
