I believe I read that Patrick St. Andrews was hoping the team as well. This would be fantastic news for our offense

We need to be focused off getting Ayton off the team. If he STILL can't set good screens...

Why is it so hard to teach a big to set a screen? Honestly, it really makes me question the quality of coaching...

I am confident that Ayton has been taught how to set an effective screen since he was in 9th grade. the problem might be him

Why do so many bigs have a problem with it then?

Setting screens gets them scoring opportunities. Every big wants to score.

    There is a disconnect somewhere.

I think it's part coaching, but also part the players makeup.

Especially if you've already received your big contract. Not everyone likes physical play, or doing the dirty work that is needed. Not a knock on him (or any other player who fits that description). It's a rare player who does that.

I don't know if he (DA) able to change his game (in this manner). I mean, physically he could, but I don't know if he will. Even with a better assistant coach.

Maybe. I've set a ton of screens and can't remember any more pain than rebounding, etc...

    It's just baffling to me

It's not. I used to teach my middle schoolers easily, and I'm a guard.

Not really 100% sure. But sometimes its not the screener, of course. Can be the player using the screen doesn't do a great job either - setting it up/timing/rubbing off the screen. Screeners know he cant move so he is hopefully stationery, it is up to the guy getting screened to use it correctly. You can see a lot of times the screener is there, set, nice base, ready to set it and the other player fucks it up.

True. However, in this case we're talking about Dame who has been super effective in the pick and roll with much lesser players here in Portland.

That is a good point though that often times the big maybe getting the blame when the guard may not be using the screen properly (getting hip to hip with a screener, etc).
