    The First Amendment protects information.

Educating people to identify misinformation is how you address that problem. And to avoid sources which are rampant with misinformation.

This is what Finland is doing, for example.

And yes, absolutely, mental health professionals can help with this as well. And access to mental healthcare is vital to many of the other problems we have in our country, particularly when it comes to addiction of all kinds.

You lean on and support strong institutions for this.

Red has supported mass misinformation since at least the '80s. Red is absolutely a huge part of the problem.

Thanks largely to their billionaires and the heritage foundation.

The first amendment has been there since the beginning. The words are great on paper. But in the real world the truth, or factual information, is indeed not being protected, or we wouldn't see all the miss information we see.
Id love to continue this convo actually, but I just remembered something I forgot about.
Ill end with saying i think we both want the same thing, just disagree on what should be the priority to focus on and fix is all.

The First Amendment is not there to protect the truth. It is there to protect the freedom to speak out.

We cannot legally restrict the rights of people to speak or print misinformation.

We can only educate people to ignore (and call it out) so it is not profitable to do.

Bibi probably blackmailed Trump — Epstein tapes?

This goes against everything Trump campaigned on.

Same WMD song and dance of the Bush administration.

    Nukes will be launched imo.

The apocalypse is upon us all :smiley-sunce:

The apocalypse was always upon us as long as Trump had a shot an winning a second term. And certainly once he won.

Conservatives, Corporate Dems, the Tea Party and then MAGA has destroyed this country.

Obama and Biden admins screwed us by not getting enough done that actually mattered, thereby perpetuating the right wing claims that government is incompetent. They were happy to play politics, get nothing done (aside from heritage foundation healthcare), and just blame the other guy.

I would say that yelling "FIRE" in a crowded movie theater is a crime. That is something that the First Amendment does not protect.

Corporations (or people) who run algorithms that are harmful to society should be deemed to be yelling fire in a crowded theater. Currently, they are protected because as a corporation they required by law to try and make the most money. Which means the more angry and obsessive they can make somebody the more likely they are to click which means they are easier to target and advertise to.

The could be written so that corporations who make money by doing that should have all money that they made doing that taken from them.

This would give corporations incentive to have algorithms that (like the original Google search) just give people access to information.

So they can help them find helpful information. But it can't help them find information that would radicalize them unnaturally.

Maybe this is the kind of thing you're suggesting?

News stations used to believe just provide the info, knowing parents and others were to coach them. Now news stations want to be the parents and provide bias information regardless of accuracy. It all volume driven like mass merchandizers selling cheap shit.

    https://www.zdfheute.de/politik/g7-gipfel-merz-100.html

In an interview with ZDFheute live on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Kananaskis, Canada, Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) said he was grateful for Israel's actions against Iran. "This is the dirty work Israel is doing for all of us," Merz said. Germany is also affected by the regime.
The leadership in Tehran "brought death and destruction to the world with attacks, with murder and manslaughter, with Hezbollah, with Hamas," the Chancellor said. The attack by the radical Islamist Hamas on Israel on October 7, 2023, "would never have been possible without the regime in Tehran," Merz explained

We had a much better education system at the time, in which teachers were teaching critical thinking skills.

Unfortunately women who were incredibly smart and well educated didn't have many options other than becoming a teacher. So our students benefited by having some of the best and most capable teachers in the world.

Unfortunately, those teachers were paid shit. And they're paid even worse now.

Students having great teachers is the single best investment that we can make in education. We waste so much money everywhere else in education. We pay over $17,000 per student, per year. So a classroom of 25 students is bringing in $425,000 per year. Average starting pay for a teacher is $46,500 per year. Overall average pay is $66,400 per year.

No full-time teacher in this country should make less than $100k per year, IMO.

I would not recommend using JD Vance as a credible source. Unless you believe Haitians eat cats in Ohio and that Trump is a nazi also that everything Trump says is true.

He is not a source. He is a VP. I am sure the difference between a source and men in power is clear here.. if not - it is now. (with regards to why I refernced it here).
You dont have to believe Trump either. However if he decides something, he has the power to follow up on it.

Which is weird because we're essentially subsidizing this as taxpayers. :-(
