A resolution has been issued and passed in the Oregon House to keep the Blazers in Portland, no matter who buys the team. The resolution now heads to the Oregon Senate where it will surely pass.

This resolution was put in place to help quell worries about the Blazers being moved out of Oregon after the team is sold.

Not sure how binding a resolution is, or if it will really stop a new owner from moving the team if they desire.

Yeah how could this possibly keep them here if the owner wanted to move them?

Maybe its a strong enough resolution where its part of the negotiations? I imagine its not merely performative, but then again its politics.

What happens if Las Vegas passes a resolution that the new buyers of the Blazers have to move the team there?

It will not have any ability for a private corporation from relocating their asset (if they desire).

    Nothing more than political grandstanding.

I would be fine if they passed a resolution that the Blazers could only move after they win 5 championships in 1o years.

I would think the NBA would have more power to make them stay than Oregon.

We should have a double secret resolution to keep them here.

I don't think there's any chance Blazers move in the next decade.

But I do think it's possible new owners use that concern to get concessions from government and others on arena upgrades. Maybe even eventually on arena replacement.

agree...Stern sure did do Seattle wrong, when they refused to meet facility demands. I could see once we are sold that the Vulcanites enter the sonics sweepstakes?

Maybe it’s a resolution they plan to present to the NBA/commissioner, in hopes of getting them on board?

Vulcan doesn't have the money to buy an NBA team. The only one who did was Paul Allen, and his will says to sell of this estate and donate his money.

So where exactly are Paul Allens groupies, er, I mean, Vulcan going to get the money?

As a private equity/holding LLC they are still able to make/manage investments and such. They are now Vale & Cercano.

Yes, it's possible that Vulcan/Vale/Cercano could still purchase professional sports teams after selling the Trail Blazers and Seahawks, but it's important to understand the situation.
The Paul G. Allen Trust, currently managed by Jody Allen, is in the process of selling the Portland Trail Blazers, a sale that is expected to continue into the 2025-26 NBA season.
However, it's crucial to note that the Seattle Seahawks and the estate's 25% stake in the Seattle Sounders MLS team are not currently for sale.
Factors to Consider for Future Purchases:
    • Financial Resources: The proceeds from the eventual sale of the Trail Blazers, and potentially the Seahawks in the future, could provide significant capital for future investments, including other sports teams.
    • Estate Management's Strategy: Paul Allen's will stipulated that his sports holdings eventually be sold, with proceeds going to philanthropy. This suggests a possible shift in focus for the estate's investments.
    • Market Opportunities: The availability and attractiveness of other sports teams for sale would play a significant role in any potential future purchases.
    • Interest in Sports Ownership: While the current direction is towards selling, the entities managing the estate could still be interested in owning other sports teams in the future, if the right opportunity arises and it aligns with their overall strategy.
In summary: While the current focus is on the sale of the Trail Blazers, and the Seahawks are not currently for sale, the possibility of Vulcan/Vale/Cercano purchasing other professional sports teams in the future depends on a variety of factors related to the financial situation, the esta
