Not surprised in that he wasn't going to get that money elsewhere. Though, I was wondering if he wanted to stay. He wanted to sign with Dallas a season or two ago and we stopped it from happening.
Thybulle was 15th in terms of minutes played for the Blazers last year. I mean it's not the #1 #2 #3 biggest problems with the Blazers. But the franchise would have been better off years ago if they let him walk then. Theyd be better off next season if he wasn't on the cap or using up a roster spot.
I do not think he is as over paid as you think .. he is overpaid but not by much cause if healthy he is a solid player. I think he should be paid more like 8.5 to 9m but not a massive overpay like some believe but also his contract is tradable for a team looking to contend.
He did sign with Dallas. We stupidly matched. Dallas luckily didn't add him and had the flexibility to add far more useful players ultimately ending up in the Finals.
Yeah....because he was hurt. My point doesn't change. He's also expiring and the money doesn't affect us at all this season, so why do you care?
Why do you care? I'm just stating facts and observations. If we didn't have his contract we could use the full MLE or add an asset in trade. So him here might have an opportunity cost. I actually saw him at a Pickles game and he a nice guy so I have nothing against him personally. Just was a mistake to match his contract, and that's a mistake hurting the Blazers flexibility this next season. It's obviously a mistake as he would've declined the option if he was worth more than his contract.
Does the timing of this mean anything? Was today the deadline. Just curious if 30 hours before the draft? Did prospective teams that would be interested in acquiring him need to know his contract status before they make a move?
He fits right in with the Blazers’ defensive emphasis, great teammate, played well the end of the season, is on a reasonable contract…so, of course, some people are displeased. OTOH, all of these factors make him attractive in trade dealings, so there’s still some hope for the disgruntled.
