<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Rams OL Terrell needs wrist surgery, out for seasonBy Len PasquarelliESPN.comOffensive lineman Claude Terrell, a second-year veteran who started 10 games at guard for the St. Louis Rams in 2005, will undergo season-ending surgery to repair an injured right wrist that has plagued him for virtually all of training camp.Claude TerrellTerrellIt will mark the second operation in less than eight months on the wrist, which Terrell injured late in his rookie season, and which has kept him out of practice for the past two weeks. The first surgery occurred in early January. The latest procedure, which is expected to be extensive and of an experimental nature, will take place once Terrell settles on a surgeon.Terrell had been projected as the Rams' starting left guard entering camp. The former New Mexico standout, a fourth-round choice in the 2005 draft who actually outplayed modest expectations for him as a rookie, recently visited with three orthopedic specialists. All three recommended he have the surgery. In acknowledgement of the need for surgery, and the seriousness of the procedure, the Rams on Monday placed Terrell on injured reserve as they began reducing their roster in advance of the Tuesday deadline for being down to 75 players."He doesn't feel like he can play with the wrist as it is right now, and this is a recommendation from three different specialists, that this be something we try," first-year coach Scott Linehan said. "It's something that is an experimental procedure, but hopefully it will be something that alleviates the problem."Terrell, 24, faces a long rehabilitation following the surgery. After sustaining the injury last season, Terrell played the final five games with the wrist heavily taped and with a brace on it. He managed to get through the year, and the feeling was that the January surgery would correct the problem, but the wrist bothered Terrell almost from the outset of training camp. He was unable to extend his hands to pass-block and to lock out on defensive linemen. In the absence of Terrell, second-year veteran Richie Incognito, a third-round choice in 2005 who did not play a snap as a rookie because of a prolonged salary dispute that lasted well into the season and then a knee injury, has claimed the starting job at left guard. Incognito moved into the starting lineup early in camp and has maintained the job throughout the preseason.Len Pasquarelli is a senior NFL writer for ESPN.com. Now we're going to need Incognito to step up. He has all the potential in the world, but he needs to get his head on straight. Should be interesting.
