Its not about starting positions - its about fitting into a rotation during a 48 minute game. All of our other core players except Scoot can play multiple positions. So if there is a great backup they can get up to 30 MPG by moving guys around. Lumbering drop coverage plodding centers can't do that. They only have a single position - Center. They can only play it for the minutes the opponent doesn't go small. There are not 48 minutes per game available at this position and we have our last two lottery picks both at that position.

There are 240 minutes available each game. It's very easy to get a guard, wing, forward or big(PF/C) minutes in those 240.

Grant has never came off the bench for a single game as a Blazer - I'd move Sharpe to the bench and Camara to SG in your picture. Otherwise excellent job!

Yes I agree that I expect we waive Reath - although Spotrac shows his guarantee is Aug1. Unless we find someone useful in free agency - I'm hopeful we can resign Banton. Without Ant we could use his scoring in the 2nd/3rd string.

We probably need a traditional PG for a 2way spot just for Scoot/Jrue injury insurance.

so, they would have taken him at #7?....or would they have taken him at #14 and not done the Avdija trade?

did anybody ask Cronin just how the Blazers would have landed him last season?

Exactly. If you take a swing on Bryant and he pans out, one day he could play the three or maybe the four. What are we gonna do with Clingan and Yang?

He didn't clarify. Just said they wanted to draft him, but he didn't declare so they waited till this year.

How would an unknown Chinese player help the team’s sale price?

all this is irrelevant if you believe Yang is the best player. Not that I like the pick, just saying the rationale.

also, rockets just played Adams and sengun for a non insignificant amount of time in the playoffs, successfully. Just saying.

watch from the bench as Ayton averages 30 minutes and the Blazers try to amp up Timelord's trade value?

It was a weak draft so the Blazers were prepared to trade up and get Yang at 3.

I don't think a reporter would ask that question because there's no way Cronin would answer it. He would never say that he would have moved (or passed) on a player who is currently on the roster.

I mean if you think both players are going to be stud starters then yes you draft them and can consider trading one of them down the road.

Just kind of an odd use of a very limited lottery pick. This likely will be our final of 4 years of lottery picks in the post Olshey rebuild. Someone like Coward/Bryant/etc could have played in a rotation with everyone one of our youth the next decade. Yang and Clingan are destined to never fit well on the same team together.

I'd say Ayton's expiring deal and Reath's deal will be traded or let go before long.

If that happens you just trade the one that’s worse, a la Jokic.

I didn’t like the pick, but none of the guys we passed up have more than role player potential IMO, besides KJ, so whatever.

They don't have to bring Duop back next season so he's the easiest to part with and he's 29 or 30 now

    Ha

Well he must not have been at the presser because it wasn't asked. Cronin offered up wanting to draft him last year after talking about how long they had been scouting him and how high they are on him. Seems to think he is really special.
