Actually - As I dig into the numbers a bit further, it looks to me like the primary factor on the 'urgency' of the trade was the #16 pick. By completing it when it was - it gives Memphis a better opportunity to scout players they are interested in (ie- Agents would not want to send their clients to Memphis for a workout if they don't have a pick in the 25 draft).

That might be an extra benefit, but I don't think that's the primary reason the deal was done when it was done. When it's a player traded for 5 picks both sides want to get the deal done and move on with the rest of their off-season. Until it's finalized there's a chance other party changes their plans.

Now that PHX has moved on from KD, and took on Brooks’ contract, how about this idea:

Blazers sends PHX Grant and our #11 pick

Suns send us Brooks, Grayson and #10

We start Sharpe and bring in Brooks as sixth man; Grayson backs up 2, 3, 4) Deni and Camara) and we use the 10th pick to draft the best swing 4/5 available.

If we can trade Ant, Grayson and Brooks gives us some scoring.

We can start the year with Ayton and make our decision at the deadline or end of the year. Most likely we trade him.

We keep Thybulle as he can be a good vet glue guy and provide a good defender off the bench.

Let Scoot and Sharpe get minutes but our bench has good depth at guard. Maybe we trade Williams and Murray for a young PF rebounding monster.

There’s no way I can root for Grayson Allen.

Would love Allen, but Phoenix can't aggregate salaries right now because 1) being over the second apron and 2) can't aggregate a traded player (Brooks) for 60 days

Is it too late to become part of a three-way trade in the KD deal? My understanding is that the KD trade cannot become official until after the draft

I'm pretty sure that means it's open to amendment until the first day of the new league year. So it seems like we could become a third team in that trade if it made sense to all parties.

Can be amended-> however Suns can't aggregate salaries. Doesn't work with them getting Grant

Suns are only sending out Durant so they're not aggregating salaries.

Edit forgot about Allen... Still maybe PHX side Allen go out on his own then Durant for Grant+Green or such. Maybe one more piece is needed.

    Blazers rotation

    Clingan Timelord
    Deni Thybulle
    Grant Hart
    Camara Sharpe
    Jrue Scoot

The defense and hustle on that squad would be unlike anything from a Blazers roster since either 1999-2000 era or the Drexler teams.

Blazers gain two picks and a swap! Plus Ayton/Grant are gone too! No worries of Jrue contract. Lillard will be an expiring contract next year.

I wonder what the biggest trade in NBA history was...in terms of number of teams and/or number of players?

I linked it in another thread - 6 teams last summer which was a record. I believe there has been a number of 5 team deals. # of players I'm not sure but I believe theres been a few around 15 players.

Its kind of meaningless what that number is as many of these are multiple separately agreed to deals that get rolled into a single massive trade for cap purposes in early July.

Perhaps a more meaningful number is the players and teams in a single deal at the trade deadline.
