KMart's Madden NFL 07 Franchise Simuation: The Arizona Cardinals

Early Roster EvaluationsMy first step in beginning my Franchise with Arizona was to check their depth chart for potential weaknesses. The first thing that jumps out at me is our Center - A.Stephanovich - 76 Overall. Now how in God's good name am I going to get a pass off with that guy anchoring my offensive line? It doesn't get much better, as my RG - M.Brown (78 Overall) and RT - O.Ross (83 Overall) are just as bad. Both my Left and Right Outside Linebackers are under 80 Overall (LOLB - C.Pace - 71 Overall and ROLB O.Huff - 78 Overall). Finally, my defensive back core is a tad weaker than I would like with my best CB A.Rolle only 83 Overall. Time for some player movement and addition.Free Agent SigningsMy cap room to begin the Franchise is at about $25 Million, meaning that I should be able to sign one solid player. If anyone followed my Eagles Franchise, you'll know where I turned first. Even after manually updating my Madden rosters, I still found Center J. Mitchells (90 Overall) on the market. By giving him what he wants, I would still have $22 Million in cap room - enough to guarantee a relitively painless offseason by average means. I ink him to a 3 year deal, a total of $8 Million.Trade Block AttempsMy attempts at recieving an Offensive Lineman fail, and so I begin my attempts at getting an Outside Linebacker. It becomes clear no defensive changer will be recieved without a first-rounder, and I decide that I should rather wait it out and see what my defense can do. Hopefully my offense can push the score out of reach enough to allow a litte...well - much breathing room to operate with.Pre-SeasonI simulate the pre-season (this time injuries turned on :flipa:) and the Cardinals finish 0 - 4, three games decided by two points or less. By the blessing of the Football Gods, I somehow come away with no injuries to any player on my squad. Notable injuries around the league:Brian Urlacher, Chicago - Out for SeasonDonte Stallworth, Philadelphia - Out for SeasonNapoleon Harris, Minnesota - Out for Season The Journey BeginsAnd so my 2006 Regular Season begins; a slightly improved offensive line and new starter at Tight End: Rookie L.Pope (80 Overall). My first game is against the San Fransisco 49ers, a team I should beat. Suddenly, I'm excited. Warner is going for 4,000 yards, Edgerrin is scoring 15+ TDs, my star Wide-Outs are going for 1,000+ Yards Each... If not, I'll even give Matt Leinhart some playing time

KMart's Madden NFL 07 Franchise Simuation: The Arizona Cardinals

Week One

San Fransisco at ArizonaAnd so my season begins. The game's first quarter plays out evenly, with each team putting 7 points on the board. My touchdown is scored via Edgerrin James, who's first three runs result in 15 Yards as well as that touchdown. The 49ers respond the very next possession, with newly acquired Quarterback Trent Dilfer hooking up Vernon Davis with a 5 Yard touchdown pass.In the second quarter, more space is pulled between myself and my opponent. Finally, I string together several defensive stops - leading to Arizona scores. I put up three points early with a 22 Yard field goal, and follow that up with a miraculous touchdown pass which would prove to be the play of the game. Anquan Boldin ran a rout deep into the opposite corner of the field, and I threw a hail mairy pass with Kurt Warner. The ball dropped into his hands even though three players were around him, and he was inches from going past the endzone and out of bounds. With that 22 Yard touchdown pass, we're in control by halftime. In the third quarter, I finally have some trouble as the 49er's defense locks in on stopping the run, and forces me into nothing for two straight possesions. After stopping me for the second time, Trent Dilfer again throws a touchdown pass 22 Yards downfield. It's a ballgame: 14 - 17.The fourth quarter is Edgerrin James time, as very short runs help run down the clock and get us in 3rd and 5 positions on the regular. Kurt Warner continually finishes off passes, and after several minutes Edgerrin James is again in the endzone for his second touchdown of the evening. Final Score: 49ers - 14 --- Arizona - 24Game EvaluationWe came away with a victory today in no short part to our offense and the 49ers blatent lack of a running game. All the 49ers needed to do was find a way to match up their reciever with one of my outside linebackers, which resulted in a touchdown reception on one particular drive. My offensive line was better than expected, although I was required to scramble a tad more than I'd like. My cornerbacks were also lacklester, getting beat downfield constantly (Something I could fix by actually playing as them, except Madden's only camera angle doesn't show the opposing #1 and #2 recievers :glare: ). It's clear this team's linebacking and cornerback core must be improved. If it becomes a big problem, trades will follow.Notable StatisticsK.
KMart's Madden NFL 07 Franchise Simuation: The Arizona Cardinals

Week Two

Arizona at SeattleWhile the 49ers were complete garbage and an easy win, I knew going into Seattle I would have a much tougher time. My, how I couldn't have been more correct. The Seahawks opening drive is capped off with a 70 Yard touchdown pass from Matt Hassleback, and before the half is over we are trailing 20 - 0. Edgerrin James chips in a touchdown to swing momentum, but right back come the Seahawks with another touchdown toss from Matt Hassleback. Going into halftime, some adjustments are going to be made.In the 3rd quarter, I finally show that offensive ability showcased throughout my previous game - scoring 2 touchdowns off Kurt Warner passes. Within 6 points in the final quarter, the momentum is clearly on my side.Up to this point, Shaun Alexander has done nothing - the reason why I've been able to stay close. But we all know that has to change at somepoint. In the 4th quarter, Shaun Alexander ammases over 40 Yards, including a 10 Yard touchdown run. The Seahawks cap off the win with a 46 Yard Field Goal.Final Score: Arizona - 21 --- Seattle - 36Game EvaluationEarly in the second quarter, Kurt Warner was hit during his throwing motion resulting in an interception. This put the Seahawks up 20 - 0, and gave me a long way up to climb. Once again, my pass defense was horrendous as Matt Hasselback looked like Dan Marino...and Peyton Manning... Combined. Our Linebackers did a great job of haulting Shaun Alexander until the fourth quarter, where he went off for 40+ yards. Even my offense was lacklester, my offensive line especially so. If these trends continue, some players are going on the vlock next game.Notable StatisticsM.
KMart's Madden NFL 07 Franchise Simuation: The Arizona Cardinals

Week Three

St. Louis at ArizonaAfter an embarrasing ( [IMG] ) loss to Matt Hasselback ( :flipa: ) and the Seattle Seahawks, the Cardinals ventured back hom to take on the Rams. Things probably wouldn't be much easier as the Rams boasted a solid recieving core and a good quarterback in Mark Brunell. Could I respond with a victory? In the first quarter, I was finally slowing down the opposing team's quarterback as Mark Brunell completed only 50% of his passes. However, the same could be said for my Cardinals, who were getting nothing out of the passing game. Late in the first quarter however, I break the tie with a pass to Larry Fitzgerald, hitting him as he turns into the middle of the field for a 46 Yard touchdown pass.In the second quarter, points are much easier to come by as the Rams respond with a 46 Yard field goal. Edgerrin James recieves a 12 Yard pass before the Rams put up a score of their own, courtesy a Mark Brunell pass. Another St. Louis field goal is tacked on to end the half.In the third, I finally get an interception as Adrian Wilson takes a horrible Mark Brunell apss into the endzone for 7. Brunell responds however, hitting reciever K. Curtis for another touchdown pass. At the end of 3, its 21 - 21. Crunch time baby.So here comes the fourth quarter, where I am going to half to outplay the Rams in order to pick up a win. In the first 4:40, both teams exchange touchdowns. So here were are, 2:20 to go and Arizona with the ball at home, in a new stadium, St. Louis with momentum.A slew of runs ensue, with Edgerrin James racking up upwards of 6 YPC. After two Kurt Warner completions, the Cardinals are 10 Yards from the endzone with 1:10 remaining. Trying to simply drain the clock, I run an I-Form Counter to the left. James breaks a tackle behind the line of scrimmage before rushing within 5 yards of the goaline. He is hit, yet somehow finds a way to pull himself and the defender into the endzone. Touchdown! We lead by 7 points with one inute remaining. Time to get a stop!So here we go, the Rams throwing up a pass on every single play - which normally means they are going to score. However, on this night, my pass defense looks incredible - evidenced by Adrian Wilson's second interception and touchdown return with 5 seconds to go. Game over.Final Score: St. Louis - 28 --- Arizona - 42Game EvaluationEdgerrin James finally had a consistent game, my protection was solid, but most of all - my defense came to play. My linebackers absoluety destroyed Stephen Jackson, and my pass defenders picked off Brunell 3 times! Adrian Wilson's 2 Interceptions, 6 Tckls, and 2 TD returns helped reward him with a Player of the Week honor, one I hope he'll get again. However, Brunell still completed 62% of his passes for over 350 Yards, something that must again be improved on.Notable Statistics K. That's like questioning why he used orange for the 49ers instead of gold. Who cares, why is it important?

This is why I didn't use goldI find it hard to read, and I've gotten many complaints about it before. So I just picked a random color that was close :beerbang2: And no one's really sure why color font is being debated. Red is Arizona, any other color is the other team. If its tat big a deal I'll change it for you :thumbsup:And finally, no cheat codes were used. No sliders adjusted. If you read something besides the final stats, you'd see Bulger still threw for 360 Yards and completed 62% of his passes. It just happened three of them were interceptions. This is the second time someon's talked to me about "cheating." Just read the damn franchise and see if we make the playoffs! [IMG]

KMart's Madden NFL 07 Franchise Simuation: The Arizona Cardinals

Week Four

Arizona at AtlantaAfter facing Trent Dilfer, a quarterback who could hit the open man pending protection, Matt Hasselback, who dominated me to say the least, and Mark Bulger who did well until crunch time, it was time to face off against a quarterback of less calibur: Michael Vick and his Atlanta Falcons team.Vick's first pass is caught by his reciever Brian Finneran, who spins to the outside and breaks a tackle. From here he runs into the open field, eluding a dive by Adrian Wilson to score an 82 Yard touchdown. Shit.Well, I don't know how else to put it, but that would be the only bright spot on this night for Michael Vick. I respond late in the first with an Edgerrin James touchdown rush, and we are all tied up at 7 - 7.In the second, Edgerrin James rushes for a TD and Larry Fitzgerald converts on a 26 Yard reception to put the Cardinals up 21 - 7. Just when I thought the game was over, I run a conservative Quarter Defense that allows Warrick Dunn to break into the open field, elude a tackle, and capatilize on a 90 Yard TD rush. This is what makes the NFL so great - yet so annoying. I've thoroughly dominated Atlanta, but two plays have kept them close. Enter the fourth quarter, and a touchdown has been again exhanged between both teams - the score 28 - 21. Cruch time once more. Within 30 seconds, Fitzgerald curls into the endzone where he snatches his 2nd TD reception of the game. On the following drive, Michael Vick throws yet another interception which results in a touchdown return. This is just downright ugly, made funnier by the fact Vick completed his first three passes for 90 yards. Talk about going downhill.Final Score: Arizona - 45 --- Atlanta - 28Game EvaluationMy Madden strategy has always been to play as the DB, limiting pass completions. As you readers know, that has not been the case in these first four games. However, in the past two outings, I've picked off a total of 6 passes and defelected more passes. My DBs are finally looking good, and my recieving core is carving everyone up. Lovely.Injury ReportMy first injury was suffered on this day, as Karlos Dansby (MLB - 90 Overall) dislocated his elbow and is out for 7 weeks.
