The Republicans will wear this piece of crappy legislation around their necks like a millstone. Crippling financial and health impacts on the poorest of our population all to benefit the richest of the rich. The GOP's traditional (if bullshit) claims to be the defender of sound fiscal policy gets made an even bigger mockery than it historically is with the addition of trillions of dollars to the national debt. And their traditional answer about everything being okay because of the HUGE economic growth impacts will be shown to be BS once Trump's tariffs become the economic disaster that all respectable economists predict. As I see it, the only good thing that may come from this is the total ruination of MAGA and the GOP. I say this as a former Republican who is embarrassed to have ever been associated with these asshats.
Our government is now an embarrassment to us and the world...it's geared towards ethnic cleansing and white supremacy as well as fundamentalist Christian domination of policy. Civil rights and equal rights and the constitution have been thrown out the door. The GOP is the party of monarchy or dictatorship. Accountability is no longer the rule of law. I think that America is going to further fragment and succession is entirely possible between red and blue states.
I would have loved to hear their prayer. I can't imagine what you'd be praying/asking/saying to God to pass that bill.
Probably something along the lines of, "Thank you Lord, for all the money about to be put in our pockets."
Maybe something like, “Trump made us do it! Trump made us do it! Please don’t turn us into pillars of salt!”
You don't have to wonder. Pastor who led prayer said government should not provide for poor. Only individual charity. Also he is outspoken anti-Semite who promoted blood libel against Jews. But Republicans care about anti-Semitism, just like they care about women's sports and veterans.
AOC pointed out how phony the no tax on tips. First, it caps at $25,000 a year, practically starvation wages. Second, it only applies to tips paid in cash. How many people go to restaurant and pay cash? The quarters we drop in tips jar at Starbucks won't be taxed. Whoopee
Am I incorrect in assuming this bill takes away food stamps and healthcare for a large amount of people experiencing homelessness? Is this just a purge? It’s literally pure evil.
And the ICE budget will be bigger than the entire military budgets of all but 10 countries. "There will be no curiosity, no enjoyment of the process of life. All competing pleasures will be destroyed. But always— do not forget this, Winston— always there will be the intoxication of power, constantly increasing and constantly growing subtler. Always, at every moment, there will be the thrill of victory, the sensation of trampling on an enemy who is helpless. If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face— forever." -- 1984, George Orwell
I hate to say "I told you so" on all of this shit, but knowing I was right may be the only joy I'll get for the foreseeable future. Good luck in fascist America to all the "patriots" out there who didn't believe us when we warned you.
I don't think directly although I could be wrong, but they have to check in every six months and fill out boatload of paperwork. If a person has no formal address they won't receive notifications. And the people most in need have hardest time jumping through hoops.
Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck. Social Security sent emails to all recipients praising big ugly bill. Deleted.
Not enough attention paid to big ugly bill resets starting point. Let me explain. Best case scenario, talking reasonable best case, Republicans don't succeed in keeping wrong people from voting and Democrats take House and Senate in 2026 and presidency in 2028. And new president is not a total tool. Instead of fighting to expand health care and clean energy and for equitable tax code, they will have to fight like hell to get back to 2024. Which looks like paradise compared to impact of big ugly bill but in reality wasn't great. And probably won't even be able to achieve that. This bill sets us back generations.
Pretty sure I read that banning state control of AI was struck down 99-1 Tuesday, so maybe that clip is a bit old. At least there’s that…
