I'm 'on record' as saying good fucking riddance to Ayton; byebye; sayonara; don't let the door hit your lazy ass as you leave. The Blazers will be more enjoyable to watch without him in a Blazer uniform

I said, repeatedly, when the Blazers traded for him they'd regret it, a lot, and end up desperately looking for a way to shed him and his albatross contract. That's what happened

I don’t think they regret it a lot. He was a non factor. They gave up nothing to get him. They got Toumani. His contract wasn’t an albatross at this point. But cutting him now doesn’t make a ton of sense if they don’t use that MLE.

Also we got rid of Nurk, which @THE HCP hints was a good thing

It was absolutely the right thing to do. There's no reason for them to regret anything. They got an all-NBA defensive player out of it and they gave it a shot with a talented former #1 pick. I would do the deal 10 times over.

They gave up Nurk, Little and Keon Johnson.

    What is there to regret?

    Gotcha.
So not better, but more fun. Noted! I can respect this for sure.

I agree but technically they also gave up Grayson Allen as well…. Which is fine because I hate that guy.

they "gave up Nurk, Little and Keon Johnson"...and Dame

team's don't buy out 36M salaries they are happy with, especially when eating 26M of it. 17% of the salary cap invested in dead salary is regret

We never had Allen. He came from the Bucks.

I never said they were happy with Ayton. And if we're counting Dame in the trade, we also have to count Deni, Toumani and the slew of draft picks/swaps we received. And we weren't going to do much with the salary in Ayton's place anyways so it was a resounding win any way you look at it.

He was an asset that we acquired from the Dame trade and rerouted to Phoenix. If the Ayton trade didn’t happen, we have Allen on our team.

Don’t really know what your question is, but we were worse with Ayton than with Clingan

The buyout doesn’t necessarily signal regret. They clearly did it for several reasons. One being that it freed up minutes and the starting spot.

The second being that they have the MLE available. Whether they use it or not is unknown at this point.

The third reportedly being that they were tired of his shit, but that doesn’t mean regret. They took a chance on him. They needed matching salary anyway. It didn’t work out. They moved on. I imagine getting rid of Nurk was a big bonus in that move.

you just confirmed the regret while denying it. And yeah....hyperbole. You're saying I can't have hyperbole? Nate's No-Fun Zone

when I first heard about that trade I was desperately hoping the Blazers were going to re-route Ayton to a 3rd team....like Indiana...or Beijing

    oh...the genesis factor!

well, Blazers wouldn't have had Dame unless they had Gerald Wallace to trade. And they wouldn't have had Gerald Wallace without having Joel Przybilla to trade. So, it all started with the vanilla gorilla.

The Trail Blazers had the 2-track build at both ends and needed to pick one. Unfortunately, the older vets included a superstar Batman who had to wait for the supporting dudes too long and wanted out, and his undersized Robin at SG was all O and not much D — twice. Cronin picked a track.

DA was gone the minute Clingan was picked at 7. Bought out when Yang was picked at 16 to go with a future 1st and 2 2nds. A fresh start — not someone else’s didn’t-work-out-player or reclamation project. Time Lord and Reath have a place if they stay healthy. If not, it’s a year away (or less).

Cleaning the team salary structure takes time. Past choices that don’t fit moving forward have been moved — Probably work to do with Grant.

Two forwards — better than predecessors going back to LMA and Nico. A veteran, winning guard at 2 positions to improve the D immediately. 2 young guards who have much to prove of their worth.

However, this is better. I look forward to watching this unfinished team. More wins and then more wins is more likely than just a year ago.

But you keep talking about regret and I’m saying that wanting to be out of the Ayton business doesn’t mean regret necessarily.

I dated a girl that was mostly just a fuck buddy. She wasn’t wife material. I got out of the relationship when it was clear that she thought we had a future together. I didn’t regret dating her. I just knew we weren’t gonna be together long term. The blazers traded for Ayton to see if they could turn around his career. They couldn’t do it and they decided to get out of the Ayton business. That doesn’t mean regret.

so, you're saying regret is subjective...right. I'm saying that choosing 26M in dead salary over a player is a textbook definition of having regret about that player
