That's one way of looking at it, or you can say that they had ayton as the price of getting an all defense forward on the roster and when they could move from him to something better, they did.

I am sure they are not regretting still being in the dame lillard business at max deal right now...

So, overall, I don't think the blazers regret it

I disagree. The team might feel regret. I don’t think this move signals that per se. They might have felt that he was never going to have good trade value. They clearly had no intention of signing him next summer, obviously. Joe is pretty big on trying to help guys out if he can. Supposedly Aytons agent approached him about the buyout. If they had no intention of keeping him and they didn’t think he would ever be a positive asset, I could see them doing him a solid and getting the MLE in the process.

Do I agree with the move? Not necessarily, but I also don’t agree that your correlation equals causation.

That's why I didn't bring up Dame. You did.

When I was in middle school and playing basketball every day? Yes I could dribble between my legs like this.

Those were separate trades. Grayson was rerouted in the same trade.

I think it's a good thing that they aren't building up toward next year...finally. There was never a true rebuild because they always kept several vets that were going to guarantee mediocrity. 3 years ago they should have dumped all the vets and really sucked for more than just the back half of a season, when it was too late.
The last several years they've been in limbo and it was frustrating af to be a fan. They prolonged the rebuild by not fully committing and it feels like fans have reached their threshold of patience (not that anyone has necessarily been patient the last few years).
It would be reassuring if they came out and said something along the lines of 'we like our core and it's time to let them learn how to win together to create that winning culture'.
Ayton makes us a better team in the short term, whether that means starting or coming off the bench. But, he's shouldn't be counted on to be a key piece in becoming legitimate contenders in a couple years. That's the message I get from seeing the moves they've made this offseason. The guys we want to go to battle with will be well rounded players (Holiday, not Ant) with the mental strength and makeup of a winner (not Ayton).
Had this all happened 3ish years ago, we would have had worse losing seasons but we'd be ahead of where we are currently and it would be easier to be optimistic about the direction of the team.

WTF? I thought he was supposed to be the prize steal of that draft. Now he's a cast-off?

Ball hogs who don't play defense are proving to have very little value.

I brought Dame up because he was the main moving part of the trade. It was one trade with 3 teams and 8 players

I'd have given 3 second round picks.

Chuckers who play no defense aren’t huge commodities

I didn't see enough of him to know about his defense. Appears he was a decent shooter, at least on three's; not so much on two's. Some people here have been coveting him since the 2023 draft

Chuckers are inefficient. He was not in just his second season.

So then why not bring up Tou who was the main part of the trade for us?
