So... Jrue's injury report was bad enough that we withdrew two second rounders from the trade, and Scoot hasn't shown himself to be the most durable, so... do we need a third PG? Is Banton still around? Or are we going to let Deni pick up the running-the-team minutes that don't go to Jrue or Scoot?

I've been frustrated the past few years when they've had (backup) PG by committee. It's obviously not a big concern for them. I'd really like to see them acquire a young guy who can run the offense and is particularly strong on defense. Then, when Jrue is traded or retires, they won't have to go find someone.
And please, for the love of Jack Ramsay, don't tell me that Banton could do it. I don't get the appeal, other than his size. There's plenty of chuckers out there that can actually defend if that's the kind of guy they want.

The person I'd really love to see was Splitter's PG at Paris last season:

I think he just signed a new contract, though.

    Other suggestions:
    Markelle Fultz
    Corey Joseph
    Monte' Morris
Patty Mills (if Dame can finish his career here, why not Patty?)

He has a better chance - roughly 1:1 assists to TOs but also 7.2 assists/48 which is surprisingly high.

I don't know if we need a third PG. I think Shaedon does a great job running our offense. I think he can do the same kinds of things that Anthony Edwards and SGA do as lead guards and he'll only have to do it when Scoot is sitting if Jrue is laid up.

I actually hope that we bring Jrue off the bench and try to limit his minutes so we preserve him for the playoffs.

I really like the lineup of: Shae, Tou, Jerami, Deni and Clingan... if Shae and Deni are seen as the first and second options on offense, if Jerami can't handle that then Shae, Tisse, Tou, Deni and Clingan works as well.

is this about having a 3rd PG who almost never plays or having a competent PG?

The two are not mutually exclusive.

You guys are overstating this. The Celtics HAD to trade Jrue. If we back out they're screwed. This was Joe leveraging them.

If you think he's playing 82 games then you must be either younger than 35 or have a very high pain threshold.

I see someone is back to being a Cronin fan --- unless he is paying you with tickets or something just makes you look foolish as fuck. You do know once the new owner takes over he will fire Cronin as fast as possible the only caveat is IF Yang turns into a star or a the Blazers make a deep playoff run.

He’s the best pg available on the cheap right now. Not sure he’d want to return though

I think, from a statistical standpoint, as some have touched on, you don't need a great distributor to be your 3rd string PG. Not saying it's not great to have that, but it's not a necessity.

All you need in that role is someone that can effectively initiate offense. Someone that can get the ball up the floor and initiate an offense that gets a good shot most possessions.

Statistically, then, I think the most important metric is finding a guard who handles the ball quite a bit and has a low turnover/100 possessions number. If there was a stat that measured turnovers/100 possessions or shots/100 possessions with that player on the board, that also would be good.

This is why I think Rupert and Sidy might be adequate if Banton is gone. All they have to do is get the ball up the court and get us into the offense. Even if one of Scoot or Jrue (presuming Jrue's even here) are out for a game, Deni's going to be running a lot of PG, too. A poor-man's John Stockton isn't required for this roster spot. You don't even need to roster a spot specifically for it. All you need are a couple of other players that can get us into the offense. Therefore, being a better player should outweigh rostering for positional need.
