I wouldn't be surprised at all if they get HCA

Or a Wemby injury and they miss the playin. Was 2 games between #3 and #8 in the west last season.

Supposedly Jalen Williams is going to get an extension soon as well. That Thunder payroll is getting pretty huge. They got two years it will be fine but in summer 2027 I wouldn't be surprised if they traded away one of Chet/Jalen/SGA.

Would the Thunder have won the title without Chet? He adds a huge dynamic to that team on both ends.

Seems like a coin flip either him or Wemby are healthy in a given season. But when they are healthy over the next decade - that team might be huge title favorites.

The NBA should only count a percentage of a player's salary against the teams cap space if the team drafted the player. Right now, seems to me like teams who draft well are punished

The NBA should just get rid of all the confusing rules and have a hard cap at the 2nd apron. Its effectively being navigated as a hard cap anyways.

Teams can go over the 2nd apron for 1 of 5 seasons.

Allow teams to trade any amounts of salaries. Remove all salary matching requirements.

I like the Dirk/Duncan/Wade/Kobe/ (we previously thought Dame) idea of letting a team have some cap relief to sign a long time franchise icon. Maybe for allstars with a single team over 10 years have 1/3 or 1/2 of their salary not count against the cap or such.

Allow all contracts to be cut for 50% savings. Stretch can only be done for max of 3 years.

Don't allow teams to trade picks beyond 4 years in the future. 5-7 years out its only the fans who pay the price as all the players/coach/GM/etc have long since left. But remove all the Stiepen restrictions.

I agree with the whole matching salaries concept. It really limits what teams can do.

Smart for Chet to sign that contract asap considering the high probability he gets injured.

Agreed. Yes part of the idea of allowing these player extension is so the team that drafts an allstar at least locks them up then if they ever pivot to rebuild can get some good assets in return so the player doesn't leave for nothing like LMA/Durant/etc.

But the NBA makes it more difficult on those small markets as they get really limited in teams they can trade their star to with all the 1st/2nd apron restrictions. Kuminga RFA BYC rules are even more confusing.

Just lets teams trade players however they wish. Teams should have to manage the entire payroll in total against season cap/apron limits. But the NBA shouldn't require both sending and receiving teams to match up all of these requirements at the individual transactional level.

Yeah - I'd have thought the Thunder would get at least a bit of a discount below the max, doesn't look like it.

Maybe they have some nonguaranteed portions or some relief if certain # of games are missed, etc. If I'm OKC I need something like that or what's the incentive to do an extension this summer.

I like Chet. I wish we had Chet. I think Chet is one of the best role players in the NBA.
But I am not paying my role players close to $50 per year.
