well, his extension wouldn't impact this year's Laker cap/tax/apron situation so I can't imagine that's the 'holdup'

what Lebron is planning may be the roadblock

personally, I think the Grant-->Lakers idea was always a long-shot. Probably even longer now

Didnt mean it was a hold up for cap reasons. Meant the Lakers were holding off on commitments beyond a year until Luka long term extension is finalized first. Just because Luka is so much more important than a Grant addition.

    ok....understood

I was thinking the Lakers might be unclear on what Lebron will do. They could have a ton of cap-space next summer if Lebron leaves....meaning their expiring contracts might be more valuable to the Lakers than anybody else and they don't want to bollix their cap-space for a player at Grant's level

The Lakers should take Jerami for Vincent, Kleber and Vanderbilt.

We get rid of a guy who I have to believe has expectations to start here and two or three times as much money left on his contract than Vando has... they get someone who if last season's numbers were because he's sick of being here and he's still capable of putting up what he did the season before and who I think will beat out Rui for their second starting forward position but regardless it gets the Lakers' roster back to where it was before DFS walked.

It also gives them about 2M more in space before they hit their cap at the first apron. They could in theory go out and get some good ring chasers who want to live in LA for the vet min.

Yeah I'd do that deal. I'm not sure Cronin would want to do it.

Save $50 million of salary in the following two years.

    Solid defensive backup PF.

salary savings in a much worse player than Grant is

again....at this point I do not think Grant's salary is the burden many apparently think it is

I look at his salary and fit. I just worry because he didn't seem to be excited to be here during his exit interview, that he is not going to be his best self coming off the bench and I don't want him starting over any of Scoot, Shae, Tou or Deni.

So this is a way that we get him elsewhere, we take a look at Vando and see if he can get healthy and be a nice bench piece, we have one less overpaid vet on the books (I don't actually give a fuck about that) and most importantly for me we make a statement that I want made but I don't know if Cronin cares about at all which is, "this team for the foreseeable future is Scoot, Shae, Tou and Deni's" with whatever bigs and bench pieces that complement them the most.

I get that Jerami's skillset is perfect for a bench piece with those guys in this system, I just don't think he wants that at all which makes me see him as a bit toxic.

When Vando was in MIN he looked like he was going to be pretty good. Dont know what happened since.

It would be better if we got Rui.

Right but I don't even know if with his contract if Jerami even has as much value as Rui on his own and the whole point of the trade for the Lakers would be getting back to as deep if not deeper than they were with DFS. So I'd just be happy letting Jerami be in a place he'd rather be, freeing up the leading roles for our core guys and seeing if we could get good value out of Vando off the bench as a reclamation project.

I think we are keeping Reath for Yang. I also don’t think we have additional minutes for more players. That Vanderbilt trade puts Sharpe in the starting lineup and replaces Grant with someone who has no expectations other than playing 15 min a game. I haven’t looked but I wouldn’t be surprised if Vandy has comparable D to Grant and he has to be a better rebounder. Grants offense would be missed though.

Grant is certainly a better player than Vando. However Vando is paid a third of the price and yes would certainly accept bench roles better. Gives the Blazers much more roster flexibility in 2026-2028. Vando is more of a 4/5 and Grant is a 3/4 who rebounds like a small PG. Grant can space the floor while Vando is a zero on that end.

If the Blazers want the most talent on the roster next season and believe Billups can manage all players roles its better to keep Grant. Also how many games will all 4 of Sharpe/Grant/Camara/Deni play? Over 82 games I bet the average has been far less than people expect - maybe only 30% or such.

Yeah I also believe were hanging onto Reath - yes the Yang connection but he's also totally fine as a 4th string option.

Can’t go into the season with DC and Yang who could well be unplayable; no idea. Even Reath isn’t much.

We have Timelord too but yeah thats a lot of question marks.

I don't think we need another traditional big - but theres an opening for a small ball center. I was surprised we didn't retain Jabari at the minimum for that role.
