They'd have to work quick. People wouldn't be able to get around the area or to games at Moda while it's being built.
They could do it in phases. Tear down the MC and build a new one. Once that's finished, tear down the Rose Garden and build an entertainment district.
Sadly, I think the time to demo the MC has passed, because those freaking morons who can't accept that things change. It's a shame the Blanchard site couldn't be bought and used. The placement of I-5 there doesn't lend itself to be useful either. I'm sure there are areas where the properties could be purchased (areas like Lloyd Center comes to mind) and utilized there. Lloyd Center would have been a good spot. It's close to transit, could have a TON of onsite parking, and could help revitalize that area if done correctly. It would have taken a lot of work, but it was a doable location. Clackamas Town Center could work too. I don't know whatever came of the owner(s) defaulting on their loan, but it's close to 205, 82nd and transit. They could incorporate a lot into the area there too.
Good analysis. But as a long time 49er fan that attended Candlestick -- the Blazers leaving the downtown core is a big no for me.
Yeah, it's a bit eerie Silver saying we need a new arena, because that's what happened to Seattle. They failed to build a new arena and were moved. Portland/Oregon would approve a new arena in a flash though before losing our team.
I'd be done with them. They have been here my entire life and I've rooted for them tirelessly. Prepping them as another city would hurt to much. I didnt care with the Raiders moving because i'm not from Oakland. I actually prefer Vegas to Oakland so it was a win for my Fandom.
The Rose Garden would become the new older arena. The Fire or Remix could play there or it could be used for other events like the MC has been. Kind of sucks though. The MC is a piece of history.
Idk I think it’s the other way around imo. Moving from Portland to Seattle is more or less the same demographic. moving to Vegas, completely different and a untapped market that will bring the NBA lots of money imo. it’s all about money at the end of the day with Silver, IMO
Yup. I think Vegas is the threat. A big group of investors who want to bring a team to the strip and they don't want to wait for the league to figure out if they want to expand.
To me it reads, we don't want an ownership group that scrapes up enough to buy the team, we want an owner firmly in the billionaire club; he's demanding massive investment in the NBA.
