I'd prefer that and Milwaukee might as well. Again, I was responding to a post suggesting that the inclusion of Tou or Deni for an MVP at the age of 30 was a non-starter.
I don't think they were utilized correctly as a combo. The team should have ran primary and secondary breaks with Giannis running the show but when the opposing defense was set the half court offense should have been ran by Dame almost every time with 60% or more of their plays being run off of the Dame/Giannis pick and roll. They did do some Dame/BroLo pick and roll/pop action and when teams blitzed that they got Giannis into some really good 3 on 2 situations. I would have run that play too. I would not have run the half court offense through Giannis up top when I had Dame. Sure some of their plays could have been Dame setting the table up top but quickly feeding Giannis in the post, who then could have run the offense from that point (ala Chris Webber or Chuck back in the day) but yeah the offense they ran with two players as offensively talented as Dame and Giannis made no sense at all. It's all a moot point though because Dame is not going to be the Dame he was the last season ever again. So I'll reiterate that I hope Scoot, Shae, Tou and Deni make this whole thing really easy and we see them as the core of the team going forward. We see Dame coming off the bench when he comes back but playing a meaningful role probably usually as a sharp shooter off the ball with either Scoot or Shae setting up the offense and looking to get it to Dame when defenses collapse on them.
The best thing about the big salary the team just gave Dame is that it removes some dead salary from the bucks next 2 years, so maybe they wait longer before the inevitable giannis trade and when the blazers get their picks, they are earlier in their rebuild
Yeah that interview was interesting; he talked a lot about work ethic and teaching the kids young to work right. It really makes me think that Dame is being signed to be a gym rat this year, and teach the kids how to work for it.
Yeah he can show them how to work for it on offense and Jrue can teach them how to work for it on D. Then we can find Jrue and new home and just play it by ear when Dame eventually returns. Step number one is Scoot and Shaedon showing up to camp much improved.
Both of those guys are in their prove it year. They have been given mentors and will probably start most of the season. Hopefully they both take off, but if they don’t, we have savvy vet backups to take over if one gets traded at the deadline, and future picks to go after more guards.
Oh you know I had to sign on for this news! Literally went into every room at work and told my coworkers the news and just smiled….so happy! I feel like today should be a holiday. #DameTimeIsBackBaby
