Dame gets all his contract in full from Milwaukee and his contract in full from the Blazers.

The Bucks get some cap relief from us signing Dame. Same as Blazers got cap relief on Ayton signing in LA. Just a portion of the deal.

Yes. Dame didn't force the Blazers to do anything. The Blazers appear to have accepted Dame's terms. They didn't have to. They certainly could have played this other ways if this was all one big kumbaya, Dame wants to rehab at home and fans can feel good at the nostalgia of having him back. It looks like the front office prioritized Dame's wishes over the growth of the team this year (unless someone wants to assert his leadership during rehab makes him worth it), and, while I understand why the Blazers might do that, I'd like an explanation why they did that if building for a deep playoff run is the ultimate goal.

One point of clarification. What other teams had the full MLE? Not the Lakers or Celtics or Rockets.

But why would he lose money if he signed for the minimum?

How did you want Portland to use their MLE?

    1. I’ll make the assertion. I think his work ethic is contagious and will be a good example for the kids to follow. He is being paid to be a gym rat this season.

    2. Dame will be ready to play spot minutes in the playoffs (whether he’s actually ready or not… you know Dame), which might make the difference in a close playoff series.

    3. It’s a wager on how much Dame can get back. A 50% Dame is worth the MLE. A 70% Dame is worth so much more. Cronin and Dame definitely talked about what Dame might get back to after rehab, and Joe must have liked the number.

    4. It’s a happy ending and franchises like ours shouldn’t court curses. Forgiving and moving on does wonders for not just individual psyches, but the collective psyche of a city. It was money well spent.

They met weeks ago, and teams could have proceed differently in off-season to have the full MLE.

    Could have been 20 teams.

Hell maybe the delay in Ayton to the Lakers was because their first choice was Dame.

I’m trying to think of a superstar who kinda let the next guy take over as he aged, any come to mind?

No point trying to be made was just curious if Scoot explodes this year what would happen.

How I wanted the Blazers to use the MLE is a moot point. I'm not the one making the decisions, nor do I have the knowledge of all the players available that those working in the front office should have.

However, to argue that it's acceptable to give a player that wants to come to Portland for personal reasons, cannot play the upcoming season, who doesn't seem to fit in what we've been led to believe we're trying to build and whose signing unquestionably further limits our already shaky cap flexibility more than we have to when we have other needs and potentially other fillers seems to contradict everything we've been told about building a contender on a timeline.

I really didn't want to rain on the dance party, at least for tonight, but there are implications of this move that I think Blazer fans should be troubled by.

And the beauty is that the true stars don't wait for the previous star to let them take over, they go and take it!

You can have your take on him. We'll agree to disagree about that one. Fuck Joe Cronin. He gets very little props from me and frankly, getting Lillard back was a layup.

He never wanted to leave in the 1st place and ownership pushed him to demand a trade by languishing and lying to him.

the odds of Portland giving Deni an extension were extremely low. Pretty much out of the question now

It's a fantastic fit. Blazers are a bunch of great defensive players who are lacking a closer. No more.

I don't understand what your arguing against.

Nobody said the things you posted, those are your opinions or your lack of understand of how GMs talk.

Nets gave Durant a full max when he tore Achilles. Lakers gave a same age Kobe max.

Blazers gave Dame MLE. Not much risk. If it doesn't work out we still have two dumber contracts on our cap.
