JC gave Dame no choice but ask.

Instead of trading the 3rd pick for a win now move ( Jaylen Brown or whoever) we selected a PG.

Dame requested a trade because that move by JC was saying we are not contending with you now, and Dame wants to win.

Can't Blame Dame. He was cornered. I believe him when he says he didn't wanna leave and his love for Portland is evident. He can live in much better cities but planted roots here with his fam and extended fam here

You know, I have been thinking about this and I’m not sure the #3 pick and Simons had nearly the value that people think. Simons was just traded for an aging Jrue on a huge contract and Bridges was traded for a shit ton of picks. People thought it was crazy that Brooklyn wouldn’t take that deal but they clearly had a number of picks in mind. They were smart to wait.

Except you're leaving out the part where Dame publicly announced MULTIPLE times that they needed to trade the pick for a vet DESTROYING it's trade value. JoeCro absolutely did due diligence and got lots of crap offers.

    That was totally on Dame.

Of course, the larger truth is that Dame just found out that the love of his life was cheating on him. He then had to negotiate kids, divorce lawyers, and a lot of BS no one should have to deal with. Going public was a horrible decision, but he made it while in a situation when you, I, and everyone else here would be susceptible to making horrible decisions. It's very understandable.

His ex was cheating on him? I've never heard that, didn't know that was the reason for their divorce. Is that true?

Lakers don't have a 2027 first to trade....it goes to Utah

I take that back...just a little. The pick is protected 1-4. So they could trade it on the condition it's 1-4

Grok said the pick should be top 5 protected, so it was pitching a great trade for us just with a pick the Lakers don't have attached to it. Make that pick their 2030 FRP top 5 protected and let's make a deal.

That's what I heard. And it sounds like it was with somebody Dame knows and trusted.

it's very likely true. Statistically, to this point in his career, Dame has been close to or even better than NBA greats in many ways

now, obviously, the cut-off line for these comparisons can be pretty arbitrary. For instance, the 25+ points actually eliminates Curry and Kobe from the comparison. Dame has averaged 25.1; Kobe averaged 25.0 and Curry has averaged 24.7...so they were not 'qualified'. Even if they were by points, each fails in another category

    Dame: 25.1 pts - 6.7 ast - 2.8 trn
    Curry: 24.7 pts - 6.4 ast - 3.1 trn
    Kobe: 25.0 pts - 4.7 ast - 3.0 trn

I thought of Curry & Kobe because of that graphic on page 25 of this thread that pointed out that Dame has

    * a higher career PPG than Kobe & Curry
    * more 60 point games than Jordan & Harden
    * more career 3PM than Klay & Reggie
    * more career assists than Bird & Jokic
    * more all-star games than Pippen & Nash

again, very arbitrary. But the depth of Dame's statistical record is very impressive, and as you said, probably surprising.

    career PPG:

    Damian Lillard 25.11
    George Gervin* 25.09
    Karl Malone* 25.02
    Kobe Bryant* 24.99
    Dominique Wilkins* 24.83
    Rick Barry* 24.78
    Stephen Curry 24.74
    Donovan Mitchell 24.71
    Kareem Abdul-Jabbar* 24.61
    Shai Gilgeous-Alexander 24.45
    Devin Booker 24.45
    Larry Bird* 24.29
    Adrian Dantley* 24.27
    Pete Maravich* 24.24
    Julius Erving* 24.16
    Anthony Davis 24.11
    James Harden 24.05
    Giannis Antetokounmpo 23.91
    Shaquille O'Neal* 23.69
    Kyrie Irving 23.66
    Jayson Tatum 23.56
    Carmelo Anthony* 22.45
    Charles Barkley* 22.14
    Dwyane Wade* 21.98

Now, Dame hasn't had the downside of late career season stats yet so those numbers will likely change

Not gonna lie, the bit at the end where he said you "learn to love it" and said he did, kinda activated my allergies a bit.
