With my surgery deemed a success…..I deemed it that because I am able to post this…. I have a question. The Conductor mentioned him once, so does that mean he’s staying? If so, what is the delay. Seems off
https://www.reddit.com/r/ripcity/s/mXabKUWyFF Posted this ^ earlier. Richman says there’s nothing weird going on, he’s just in LA and doesn’t wanna fly here to do it. Says he will be here in September. Personally I think it’s strange, if true, that he doesn’t wanna come PDX for a presser if he’s actually happy. Maybe I’m wrong but just my opinion.
He’s not happy to be here but I literally do not care about that as long as he’s professional about it
He was in PDX the week prior to summer league and went to the Blazers practice facility, videos on Blazers Instagram of that with his kids and Billups and Cronin and others. Maybe that's when they did physicals to finalize the trade. My guess is perhaps they were going to do the presser then - but then decided to delay it with the Dame signing and summer league, and now he doesn't want to come back to Portland again just for it. A bit odd but I can also see where maybe he just doesn't care to do a few days of traveling for a 15min interview. He's 35 and had a number of teams with jerseys so honestly I'm fine with him just staying out until he comes here to get ready for training camp
Yeah, why would the guy want to come up here for a day to fly back home probably the same day. What a weirdo.
I believe Casey or one of the beat writers mentioned that Jrue was hooked up with the team real estate helpers to show Jrue and his wife some options for housing...I'm sure he has summer commitments with his family in LA that he needed to get back to. He may have vacation plans in place as well.
I heard on a podcast that they didn't have a press conference for him because when he was in town post trade, the press (local beat writers) were all in Vegas covering summer league. STOMP
It can't be that simple and logical. It HAS to be someones fault. Like, Chauncey, or Joe, or I know, Bert! And it's a mistake they traded for him!
I think it's weird they didn't just do the presser while he was here. I won't be surprised if he's here when training camp starts but I lean a little towards him being traded in the week or two leading up to training camp. I feel like there is a real possibility that there are multiple offers out there and Joe is just waiting for one of them to up the ante.
Mike Richman made it sound like it was all a timing issue. The thing I haven't seen mentioned from his latest podcast is that the majority of Blazers media were in Vegas when Jrue was in PDX and out of respect for their jobs, wanted to have them there when they did the presser.
I don't believe this. I think you've posted something like this speculation every off-season that a deal is likely coming soon. Except for the Dame trade that I think we can agree was extremely unique - every Cronin trade has been at the draft or trade deadline. Jrue is staying put. We have the opening night roster.
You are right as far as I know Dame was the only trade that was extremely outside one of the two very active trade windows. At the same time every situation is different. When we traded for Jrue I doubt we knew we'd have Dame and obviously he's not playing this season so maybe it doesn't matter. You're probably right and this will probably be our opening night roster. The thing that has me questioning it isn't if Joe is working the phones right now. It's if the Lakers are good with what their opening night roster looks like or how motivated Sacramento might be to upgrade their roster before opening night. Again though, I was probably wrong to be leaning that way and we probably won't see any trades between now and February.
I haven’t had a chance to look into it but can anyone remember a time when the team acquired a player in a major trade who has the pedigree of Jrue and they didn’t do the “holding the jersey” press conference?
So I completely forgot but last year they did a half ass impromptu introduction for Deni. So I guess it tracks that they didn't do it this year because the press was down in Vegas.
Kind of the opposite of the Trenton Hassell situation. Blazers signed restricted free agent Trenton Hassell and had a big press conference with his jersey only for the Wolves to match.
Yeah, also kind of unusual for the Blazers to trade for someone as old as Jrue too. Normally the old guys acquired are signed and do press conference then while signing the contract. Billups has mentioned Jrue very often in comments the last few weeks. If they were pursuing deals with him I don't think he'd do that so much.
