I agree with what Suke just said on his radio show… “10 year old me is heartbroken… 48 year old me thinks he’s a garbage human being”.
Yeah, we all have issues. Yeah, we are all imperfect. Yeah, we have all done bad things. Most of us are not racist homophobic union busting professional assholes.
He meant that Hogan was famous for embellishing things/making shit up , not being "telling the racist truth". Those are two independent things.
Hogan long has lost the benefit of the doubt when it comes to how people react to his death. It's not like he made a 1 time mistake and cheated on his wife and spent the rest of his life making it up and owning up to it and never doing it again. Ffs, just *last year* he made comments about Kamala Harris and which kind of "Indian" she was. The only people who make that joke, let alone do it in front of people while being recorded, are POS. I mean ffs, when the wrestling community and fans blacklist you....
What a bunch of scumbags in this thread. You guys don't know anything about how supposedly awful he was. Just cancel culture jerks. All the wrestlers have been saying what a good guy he was. Ric Flair was in tears. I hope you all never do anything wrong in your life you saints. As the product of the 80's, he was a hero when I was a kid. RIP brother!
Yes we do. We have eyes and ears. And we're adults who can separate someone being famous for scripted entertainment, and someone is *on tape* saying racist shit. Jesus Christ, get some air.
It’s not possible to be as you put it “ racist at times”. That just makes you a racist “all the time” you could replace the word racist with rapist and it would be equally absurd to water that down
I didn’t realize until this afternoon what a douche bag he was. I was completely unaware of his extremely racist comments etc.
He literally said those things. Racist people should be cancelled. You don't think racist people should be cancelled?
I think a lot of people didn't. Those of us who either stayed as wrestling fans (off and on) knew, but I suspect most people either only knew him from his WWF days when they were kids, or his NWO days when they were kids (usually two different groups of ages). There's a slight chance someone who knew he was racist, might actually have a better grasp on what kind of person he was vs someone who actually uses the phrase "cancel culture"unironically.
The guy was a huge pop culture icon for a generation of people..big enough to be an action figure, make movies and sell a gazillion Halloween costumes. I didn't know the dark side of him until his fame was pretty much gone. I've met some really cool people from wrestling culture and one was a neighbor for 10 years in the Sierras...some great dudes that for the most part are actually friends...a real bro culture for sports. I can see how it shocks people who don't know to see fangs and warts come out in their heroes.
There are hours upon hours of interviews of other wrestlers talking about how he wasn't great. Macho Man even wrote a diss rap song about the guy.
