if portland can't get into a big enough amount of cap space to renogtiate and extend deni, does dumping jerami and saving money do the blazers any good? it seems like blazers are prioritizing pushing salary slots out into the future (ex: is jrue the matching salary for the all in move with picks?)

portland will have zero legacy salaries (not camara/shae/scoot era) that go out past 3 years.

Bridges is actually limited to a 4y 156 million extension. It's a bit like the Deni situation - he could sign for over $200 million on a 4 year deal this summer.

I wonder if its possible that is the Blazers cap space plan is to carve out max cap space for Bridges in 11 months? They would probably have to dump one of Jrue/Grant and possibly renounce Sharpe to make that all work. Bridges and Dame are very close. He goes from being the ~4th option in NY to 2nd option here.

To me, Bridges ain't it. They need a legit star.

    Booker
    Giannis
    Embiid
    Brown

That caliber. A legit second star who fits the immediate timeline because you have to figure they have MAYBE a two year window. This is the all-in, go for broke move that we were begging for. It hinges on Dame being Dame. You keep Tou and Deni and probably DC unless you trade for a center. To me this is the move where you push in all the chips, Shae/Scoot/Milwaukee picks/Orlando pick, etc.

like I said earlier I think the only reason they'd make a move for cap space is so they can extend deni early. I don't think they're going to try their hand at free agency.

I think it's generally understood that a Grant trade would be of the 3 for 1 or 2 for 1 variety. So, to be, filling up our roster is Joe's way of saying that Grant will not be traded.

That's assuming a lot. Many of the trade possibilities I've looked at have us bringing back 1 year deals that would be easy for us to waive. It would also be very easy for us to waive a guy like Wesley or trade someone like Duop to a team with an open roster spot, and some kind of exception for a couple of second round picks.

I do think the most likely scenario is this roster is set until the deadline but there is still a ton of roster flexibility.

100% agree, blake wesley move was essentially a 'player discard to end the turn' situation.

Sounds like most of the smoke out there is about RW3 now. I haven’t seen anything about Grant in a while.

A Grant for Harris trade would be a home run IMO.

unless they're trading firsts/swaps, they have nothing to trade.

I'd rather just hang onto him and his bird rights if they're just offering filler and 2nds. knecht played his way out of value at SL.

    I'd trade a 2030 swap.

For LA it's not that risky as our pick is the best of PDX/MIL.... So likely the swap doesn't cost them anything. Being a swap it doesn't prevent them from trading any picks for a star to pair with Luka.

In the event they suck in 2030 or just have a lucky lottery ball etc we get that chance of moving up in the lottery.

    Your describing 2029 picks.

Our 2030 pick is currently only one pick best of PDX/MIL

Lakers don't own a 2029 pick, they traded it to Dallas.

Timelord doesn't have much value - I don't believe your getting a normal unprotected swap for him. That's why I proposed the 2030 one as it's less costly to the Lakers than a normal swap.

Damn - Blazers insisted on two FRP for Grant last off-season?

They should have settled for one or whatever LAL would've agreed to.

    Such a missed opportunity.

    https://www.si.com/nba/lakers/news/...two-first-round-picks-for-jerami-grant-ml0802

I'm glad we finally broke up 67% of the horrific GrantAytonAnt core. But it never made sense from the day it was assembled.

Will be annoying if we have Grant until 2028.

my assumption this whole time is that asking for two firsts was their way of trying to get an actual good first and/or a a player they liked vs. one of their crappy bench players and a crummy protected first.

Since when is a podcaster a reporter? That should have been the first clue this "report" is speculative garbage for the gullible. Common sense should tell anyone there is no way in Hades any team would do anything but laugh at Cronin for insisting on 2 FRPs for Grant since he signed his current deal. Heck, Cronin got him for 1 FRP and he's done nothing but get massively overpaid, play mediocre to horrible ball, miss tons of games & get older since. Under the current punitive CBA, why would any team want to tie up 20% of their precious capspace with a crappy aging player let alone give up a single FRP for him? Conversely, I can think of an extremely obvious reason a podcaster would want to make S up. If such a deal was actually being discussed, my first question is what massive load of bloated salary crap is coming back this way?

PS, Santa isn't real... the Easter Bunny either

I don’t know about Scoot, but if we trade Sharpe, we’ll reaaaallly regret it.

Hope that's true. Their best lineup, despite what Danny Marang insists, doesnt have Jerami starting.

Plus the whole "he makes too much too start" is a weird argument.

If hes not the best player for the starting lineup, it doesn't matter if he is overpaid.
