Ryne Sandberg, former MVP and member of baseball Hall of Fame, died of cancer yesterday at age 65. I honestly can't ever recall anyone saying a bad word about him. He wasn't best at anything but was very good at everything. At his Hall of Fame induction, Ryno said he was in awe every time he walked onto the field. That he was never fastest or strongest or most talented but always tried to play the right way because of the love and respect he had for the game. Sunshine and grass fields forever. And fuck cancer.
Yeah, in primitive days of cable everyone got WGN and TBS. Saw more Cubs and Atlanta games than my A's.
I had at least a dozen close-to-mint condition rookie cards (multiple Topps, Fleer, and Donruss) for each of them until my stepbrother and his junkie buddies found them.
