Thats the problem with pitchers that only give you 5 innings. Hard to get 4 different pitchers to be perfection relief. I'd find different closer at this point Boone. Williams has blown to saves in a row and has given up runs in 4 of his last 5 innings. Always shaky when he comes in and rarely gives you a clean inning.
And Bird should be DFA'd! He blows moose chunks! Yesterday was best chance for a win with fried on the mound. Now with the kid warren and choking Carlos think were getting swept here.
Mel, the problem I've always has with most managers is that they tend to rely on "the binder" or advanced metrics too much. I say this because if you pull your starter after 5-6 innings and use 3 or 4 relievers to close out the game, the odds are that at least 1 of those relievers is gonna have an "off night" that ends with a loss. Just like all of us, pitchers have their good days and bad days. But say we bring in a reliever in the 6th or 7th inning and it is obvious that his stuff is great while mowing down the batters 3 up, 3 down. Instead of arbitrarily relying on "the binder" by bringing in a different reliever to start the next inning, why not allow the previous reliever who was dominant during the inning before to come back for yet another inning? I mean he's already proven that he's "on" during the inning before but if he brings in a different pitcher instead, he risks the chance that the guy might have an "off" night. Hell, for that matter, the same could apply to the starters. If the starter has his stuff that night through only 5 innings and 70-80 pitches, why in hell not bring him out for another inning?...another 10-20 pitches added to his "pitch count" are not gonna kill him.
Boone should be held accountable, but Cashman is the one who poorly assembled this roster so he should be fired as well. In fact, the Yanx have never won a WS that was solely built during Cashman's tenure of 27 years.. The 2009 Champs mostly relied on the "Core 4" of Posada, Jeter, Pettitte, and Mo.
