On how many attempts and on what percentage? How is his play-making for others, defense, etc? We're not looking for a high volume shooter on low percentages. There is no coach or teammate that is preventing Sharpe from shooting 49% from the field and 36% from 3. That's on Sharpe.
agreed, though I think the fans that are left are pretty realistic about players coming and going--there is no one on the team that would create a massive earthquake backlash if they moved on.
"I don't see an incentive for Portland to go much beyond 4 years and $ 60-65 million" I can't see who wrote that, but they are not being realistic. As we all know, when we are talking about young NBA players, we are talking about potential, not their production. That number for an extension needs to start at about 20-22 million per year, not 15-17 million over 4 years. But more likely closer to 25 million per year. To suggest 15 per year would be great, but his agent would laugh at that and in no way advise his client to take it. I do like the front loaded idea though.
idiot article with loopy assumptions seemingly based on a 100M salary cap. Look at some of the contracts given out lately: OG Anunoby $39,568,966 $42,500,000 $45,431,034 $48,362,068 Scottie Barnes $38,661,750 $41,754,690 $44,847,630 $47,940,570 $51,033,510 Franz Wagner $38,661,750 $41,754,690 $44,847,630 $47,940,570 $51,033,510 Tyrese Maxey $37,958,760 $40,770,520 $43,582,280 $46,394,040 Desmond Bane $36,725,670 $39,446,090 $42,166,510 $44,886,930 Jalen Suggs $35,000,000 $32,400,000 $29,600,000 $26,800,000 Immanuel Quickley $32,500,000 $32,500,000 $32,500,000 $32,500,000 Dejounte Murray $31,557,103 $33,597,072 $31,619,506 Jalen Johnson $30,000,000 $30,000,000 $30,000,000 $30,000,000 $30,000,000 Devin Vassell $27,000,000 $27,000,000 $24,652,174 $27,000,000 Nic Claxton $25,352,272 $23,147,727 $20,943,184 Trey Murphy III $25,000,000 $27,000,000 $29,000,000 $31,000,000 Jaden McDaniels $24,858,622 $26,700,001 $28,541,380 $30,382,755 Jarrett Allen $20,000,000 $28,000,000 $30,240,000 $32,480,000 Josh Hart $19,472,240 $20,923,760 $22,375,280 Alex Caruso $18,102,000 $19,550,160 $20,998,320 $22,446,480 Andrew Nembhard $18,102,000 $19,550,160 $20,998,320 Patrick Williams $18,000,000 $18,000,000 $18,000,000 $18,000,000 Devin Vassell got 27M/year (3 years older than Sharpe): Jalen Johnson got 30M/year (2 years older than Sharpe): this will be Sharpe's 2nd contract. Players coming off their rookie scale who have showed decent upside always get paid well. Expecting Cronin to play hardball with Sharpe seems unrealistic more than that though is the calculations based upon a percentage of the salary cap; which by all reports is how agents and GM's set the parameters. Sharpe's max base salary would be 25% of the cap. When Simons signed his deal, with Cronin by the way, his annual average salary was 20% of the cap. His base salary was 18% of the cap the cap next summer will be around 180M. If Sharpe got 15M/year, that would be 8% of the cap; that's fucking ridiculous. If his contract was an adjusted equivalent to Simons (and yeah, I know Simons was overpaid), Sharpe's annual salary would be 36M/year. For sure, 36M/year seems nuts unless of course Sharpe makes a major leap next season. Sharpe's cap-hold will be 25M; that seems like a decent starting point for negotiations. As a base salary that would be 14% of the cap. If Sharpe doesn't leap but simply continues an upward trajectory then an annual salary of 15-17% of the cap seems appropriate; that's 27-30M/year.
we need to start talking in terms of percentage of cap or we're all going to lose our damn minds. the cap a few years ago is way lower than it is today.
I think teams have stopped giving the bag to rotation players who don't make an all nba roster or allstar team...Sharpe will get generational money but I don't think he'll get Jerami Grant or Ant money...depends on how he starts the season. Toumani is due to make approximately 87 mill over 4 years and I don't see Sharpe as it stands making more on his first deal. I hope he changes my mind. If I'm GM today I couldn't give the kid more than Toumani will get and justify it.
yeah, that's what I'm arguing in a post above. This assertion that a 15M/year contract should be sufficient is idiotic nonsense. Since the cap will be around 180M, that would pay Sharpe only 8-9% of the cap. Laughable. When Cronin signed Simons to his deal, the base salary was 18% of the cap and annual salary was 20% of the cap if Sharpe only gets 15% as a base salary, that's 27M, and that would be a 30M/year contract. Is there any reason to believe Cronin will start playing hardball with his own free agents?
This is based on 26-27 cap, which would be the first year of sharpe's extension. everything is back of napkin on my part. 25 – 35 % Clear All-NBA or max All-Star $43 M – $60 M 18 – 22 % Solid All-Star / #1-B option $31 M – $38 M 14 – 17 % High-end starter / fringe All-Star $24 M – $29 M 10 – 13 % Above-average starters / elite role players $17 M – $22 M 7 – 9 % Quality rotation piece / average starter (6th-man-of-the-year types, strong specialist wings, high-minute bench bigs) $12 M – $15.5 M The challenge with sharpe is that he has some very hard to duplicate elite skills, but he can't shoot consistently yet and is very unreliable as a defender despite having tools. so that puts him anywhere from like 20-29, in my opinion, and you'd want to be correct on which end of that range you are. for 24-25, he only produced at like a 16-18mm value for 24-25 cap, but you're always going to pay on the potential.
Hmmm someone is missing from the future of this team….. https://www.reddit.com/u/RQTrailBlazers/s/T0wlHw3YGq
Do you think it's weird though that they included every single other young player (and Dame) that we consider to be part of the core of the future..... except Shae.
I do not. Currently on the Blazers official web site on nba.com I believe "Storm in a teacup" is the correct phrase.
He most certainly better have a good season. Seems like a bunch of people have some huge expectations. If he doesn’t he’ll become the next whipping post.
He wants to have one for himself. He would like to get as big an extension as possible, or go into RFA and have teams forcing the Blazers to really pay him.
