A great 3 point shooter Above average defender If he will come off the bench or be a great backup, we will be that much deeper. We need forwards. He was great at start of last year and then realized, as a vet, we don't need to play hard or try to win much. (According to the capture the Flagg mentality.) Just watch, when it counts, he will soar. Dame has gotta be stoked he is still here. His play will improve drastically on a team where Dame is watching him and others like Jrue. Stop the hate.
Been saying this for a while. Grant can guard 1-4 and at times the 5. He can create his own shot. He can make a 3. He is a good teammate that doesn't create problems or drama. Solid guy all around and is good in the locker room. The same thing applies here that I said about Matisse. If you are building a contender you want a team that is very deep. You want players that can "Next Man Up" at any time. Grant is one of those guys and no what they are paying him is not really a concern to me at this point. When he becomes expiring they will make a decision on what to do with him. What it seems a bunch of people on this board want is to get rid of a player that fits the need of every team in the league. Long, good defender, that can score.
i think it might be more about defensive intensity and hustle up and down the court. Im hoping he hasn't checked out after getting paid and like the OP eluded to, I doubt Dame would let JG tread water without saying something. Dame has that elite work ethic, ala MJ and Black Mamba. I fully believe that transcends to other players on the team. When they see that, they will elevate their game both in practices and in game play.
He was about the worst/most inefficient player in the league last year. Certainly getting all that $$ to be a star. weird take to try to gaslight us all for having a negative reaction to his historically awful output.
A bit of overstatement to start the thread — “great” 3-point shooter? (Most of the description is reasonable.) Grant is a decent to good starting forward. His price tag is not good and not likely (for a while) movable for expiring contracts and a 1st round pick. The number of years is now the same as Dame and Jrue. It “Fits.” How Sharpe does determines whether Toumani slides down to the 2 to start or plays major minutes (instead of at forward). How Scoot does determines whether Jrue at the 1 and plays more minutes there or at the 2. Jerami should have 28-32 minutes available behind Toumani and Deni at forward. The core rotation of 8 (+ Time Lord, health-dependent) looks positive on paper: 3 guards, 3 forwards, 2+ centers. The minutes that Matisse, Murray, Rupert, and Reath get — it all depends.
If you go by eFG% NBA.com filters out players that played less than 15 mpg. Grant was the 29th worst player by that metric. If you use TS% he's not even on the first page. Kris Murray is though. Kris was one of the worst players in the league last year by shooting efficiency. He was 59th worst in TS%. He was 77th worst in offensive rating. So overall he was pretty bad but he was nowhere near the worst player or most inefficient player. He was probably one of the worst players in terms of what he's making and what he provided though.
One thing I know...Grant didn't play great with Ant and Ayton....his best year was his first year here..I think with the current roster, he might return to form..he guards superstars like Lebron really well. Playing with Jrue Holiday and later Dame is going to be good for Grant. Hope he looks great and teams want to trade for him down the road. He's not a liability on the roster by any stretch and stats from last year are hard to cite because he didn't play much last year. He doesn't seem like a complainer either so it's all good if he's on the roster for now.
I don’t see anyone gaslighting anybody. The team has been tanking for three years. Actually it’s the “He’s inefficient” that seems more like gaslighting!
