What exactly do we need in a new arena that couldn't be added to the Moda?

What does the new Key Arena have that the Moda Center currently doesn't?

I wonder the same. The basic structure is sound. It is accessible. They could tear down old PMC and put in sports bar, few shops.

The Moda doesn't need to be gutted ffs. key arena wasn't significantly better than Memorial Coliseum, let's not act like the Moda is a dump.

The Moda / Rose Quarter only needs to be upgraded, not replaced. A complete teardown / build from ground up or a totally new arena in a different location is not necessary.

I feel like most of the changes need to come outside the Moda.

A new arena should be in the plans, but it's not like they can't fix up Moda to make it more than fine.

It mostly needs a financial commitment from the owner(s) and the city.

The Portland Fire ownership group should be forking over some cash for a new arena also.

I'd think Moda might be a contributor seeing as they're getting all the attention anyway

That's not really how it works. They pay the team / arena owner to have their name on the building. A jersey patch sponsor doesnt pay Nike to make the uniforms their name is on.

even if you remodel the RG, the area around it needs a TON of thought and work. that is going to be expensive.

I don't think a winning outcome for the city or the new ownership group is just updating the RG and that's it. I think the city has enough skin in the game to where it makes sense to make the area around an updated or rebuilt RG attractive to year-round traffic vs. just gameday.

I’ve always thought that maybe fold out tables for each seat would be nice. Maybe they could somehow supply each person with a small packets of wipes (for hand/tables.) Then put a small garbage can between each seat that you are responsible for. So you would need to empty it.

Developing the area around the Moda is going to be far cheaper than building a new arena and developing the area around it.

Fans should do their cocaine in the bathroom at halftime, not in their seats during the game.

i'm not arguing for a new arena. I'm saying updating the rose garden and redeveloping the area around the rose garden is not going to be cheap and will require taxpayer participation.

(and it might be cheaper, but it will still be very expensive and take years of planning; 'far cheaper'--disagree with you there.)

It's because they are absolutely way over priced. We have paid for one. Just the bare minimum is 25K. It was the Lakers but wow. There were empty suites on both sides of us. It just doesn't make sense? Drop the price and fill the boxes.
