Creating more housing and getting people in housing is the only proven way to address those problems long term. It's also the most cost effective way.
They're going to make more money in Portland than in a situation like Utah. Regardless of suites. If the team leaves it will be due to lack of new arena, IMO. I don't think it's going to happen. They aren't going anywhere. I don't think it would be worth moving to Vegas either.
Perhaps it was the timing (they were filming Pirate of the Caribbean IV at the time off the north shore) but I never felt comfortable in Kauai. Felt very distinctly unwelcome and I didn’t want to bother people there any more than I had to. This was way back in 2010 so my current situation had nothing to do with it.
That is as good as they get, My only concern is the pageantry for only one night. Were do they go the next game? That was my overall point. I might have missed the mark in getting that across.
We can wait and see what Dundon does. But if he cancels Pride and then blathers everyone is welcome my community will be saying, yeah, as long as we stay closeted. There is no way cancelling Pride, or Black History Month, etc. can be seen as anything other than backtracking on support for our rights.
I could see “fighting woke” as an excuse for pulling out of Portland in a couple of years; stop supporting anything then when the backlash hits, claim the town has turned its back on the Blazers and move them to Vegas. Seems like a reliable grift.
We should come up with all sorts of unrealistic or impractical scenarios for why we think the owner that we barely know anything about is secretly going to move the team.
I agree, it's fun! All these threads are like little creative writing prompts where I can project every fear, every frustration, all my anger and desperate sadness onto my work, which I assure you is bad only because I'm self-medicating to dull the pain. This place is amazing.
