In search of lost time - Marcel Proust It’s interesting, and I’d probably still agree if I could ever finish it. But I swear, 1 paragraph and I’m banging my head against the wall. I’ve never really been a big reader, but I’ve encouraged myself to read more and more as I get older. I figure there are some of you which actually like to read a book before bed, or just find reading to be relaxing. But what is more relaxing than “From the Earth to the Moon” by Jules Verne?
Never read it but I've heard The Art Of The Deal is a real snoozefest...faster than Sominex or the last Sade record!
That was Sun Tzu’s follow up to The Art of War, right? Or am I thinking of “How to have your hat and wear it too” by Marie Antoinette?
I won't be of much help on this one since I don't read much for fun. I read and lot for my job so it makes it a hobby I don't like to do with my free time anymore. I usually turn on an old TV show like King of the Hill, Friends, How I Met Your Mother etc. Lately I have been watching streams of indie horror games from the streamer CaseOh while I fall asleep.
I read myself to sleep with Agatha Christie. I know them all so not suspenseful. Not serious. Read other stuff all other times.
I read more non fiction these days but I will read fiction occasionally..I tend to chain read authors. One difference is now I need large print...my days of reading paper backs is long gone. I read a lot of poetry and short stories. Recently read I Claudius by Robert Graves again...I'm revisiting some classics in my library.
Audiobooks work well for me. Holding a book I wake myself up when the book hits me as I fall asleep and then I'm awake by the time I put it away and turn off the light. Audiobooks I just set to play for 15 minutes. If I fall asleep I know where I am the next day and if I don't fall asleep by the first 15 minutes I give the phone a shake to play for another 15 minutes and I almost never make it to the next stop.
Agatha Christie, there’s a name even a non-reader like myself can recognize. The more I’ve gotten into the thought of wanting to write, the more I’ve gotten into the thought of needing to read. Never read anything by Agatha Christie.
Yeah, my wife and I turn on documentary shows like What on Earth, Mysteries From Above, Unearthed, Mysteries of the Abandoned, Histories Greatest Mysteries, Paranormal shows like The Proof is out There, Strange Evidence, The Unbelievable, and The Unexplained, or Space shows like Cosmos or How the Universe Works. Sometimes we also watch Expedition X or other Josh Gates shows. Any of the above get the job done.
As for books, I'll just dive into a good Stephen King or Michael Crichton book or any good mystery novel and I'll end up drifting off.
If I ever met Hercule Poirot, I would run fast in the opposite direction. He gets invited to dinner, his host gets murdered and by end of book another guest is murdered. He goes on vacation, another guest in hotel is murdered. He travels by goat, train, plane, another passenger is murdered. He is Typhoid Hercule!
