So many people doubt this kid. I really wanted him on the Niners.

Brooklynn Haywood is staying in the Pacific Northwest.

The Union High School (Vancouver WA) senior guard announced Thursday on social media that she is committing to the University of Oregon to play basketball.

“After a long talk with my family, weighing every option, I’ve made my decision,” Haywood said in a social media post. “I’m committing to the University of Oregon.”

Haywood chose Oregon over Baylor and Utah.

Haywood told Rivals.com that Oregon head coach Kelly Graves and the proximity to Vancouver helped sway her decision over Utah and Baylor.

“Kelly Graves has come out with some great point guards,” Haywood told Rivals. “That’s kind of one of the things he’s known for is just having amazing point guards with high IQs. Also, it’s close to home, so that was a plus. It’s two and a half hours from where I’m at now.” I really love the campus and the coaches are amazing.”

Haywood was The Columbian’s All-Region player of the year last season after averaging a state-best 31.4 points a game and shooting 40 percent from 3-point range. She also averaged seven rebounds, five assists and three steals a game for the Titans.

The three-time All-Region selection led the Titans to the 4A Greater St. Helens League title and to the 4A state playoffs.

“I just feel like Brooklynn is viewed sometimes as a great scorer,” Union coach Gary Mills said, “but she is actually a great basketball player.”

Haywood is in Los Angeles where she was invited to participate in the Mamba League Invitational on Saturday and Sunday. The event is a two-day tournament created by Nike to bring together elite high school boys and girls basketball players to showcase their skills and celebrate the enduring legacy of Kobe Bryant.

After that, she will travel with her CalStars travel team to play four games over nine days in China.

“The recruiting process, it’s been a blessing,” Haywood said. “It’s been exciting, but it’s also been hard. I’ve had to think about my future, the people I want to be around, the culture I want to represent and the place that feels like home.”

She's super good. Automatic from 3 when she's hitting. Great scorer from all 3 levels.

My girls have played against her for years. They run her off so many screens... She dropped 50 on us.
