yeah, that's the rub: Simons is 26, has played 7 seasons and over 400 games. And in that span, he has pretty clearly been one of the very worst defenders in the league. In 2021-22, when the Blazers were dead last in the NBA in defense, Simons was dead last on the Blazers in defensive rating (4 points worse than the team) and last among rotation players in DBPM.

The following season when the Blazers were 27th in defense, Simons was again dead last in defensive rating, and again, was 4 points worse than the team; and if Kevin Knox hadn't been on the team, Simons would have been dead last in DBPM. In 2023-24, when the Blazers had climbed up to 23rd in defense, again Simons was dead last in def rating 4 points worse than the team. And dead last, again, in DBPM. Finally, last season when the Blazers had advanced to 16th in defense, guess who was dead last in defense on the team with a mark more than 4 points worse than the team. The trend is established

I've watched him on defense and it's not just a matter of effort. He has weak lateral mobility, poor awareness, and slow reactions. It's a contract year for him so you can probably expect solid effort all season, but effort isn't going to offset significant limitations

Any interest? Seems like a solid reclamation project?

I'd really like to give him an opportunity.
Given the proximity to the tax line and a full-roster, he would need to agree to a 2-way contract. If so, sign him up.

Klay has played against some of the best in the league though. In playoffs, in the finals. Playing against Curry more than anyone in the league. Now playing against Kyrie in practices. I think his opinion is more than valid.

I’m sure he’s not the only NBA player which would say that. Kyrie is somehow still underrated.

Kyrie is near the best in the league offensively. Problem is, like Dame is his defense, or lack thereof.

And the strategy against Nurk is to give him the ball anywhere 3-5 feet from the basket. All he will do is finger rolls that miss. He certainly won’t dunk the ball.

    Just live with the results.
