OSU and WSU simply fit better competing against teams in their own weight class. Nothing wrong with that. After a few years they will adapt nicely and their fans will be able to enjoy the competition.

Here are the members of the new Pac-12 Conference, starting with the 2026-27 season:

it will be interesting to see what Smith does at at Michigan State; if his teams are similar to his best at OSU

by the way...OSU fired Riley??....I thought he left to become HC at Nebraska..?

obviously Gonzaga is not an FBS team but they certainly are a basketball school. That's good for the conference because the March Madness media distribution to conferences is a bit over 2M dollars for every game a conference member plays

this will probably be the conference till the next round of realignment happens in 2030-32. The big shoe to drop could be the ACC falling apart. Their GOR runs thru 2037 but by 2030 there may be enough desperate ACC schools to take the steps to dissolve the conference

I know the Pac-12 is probably hoping to pick off Stanford and Cal; that might happen. But Stanford may be a prime candidate for the Big-10 along with North Carolina. They are a match in terms of overall athletic programs, and certainly a match academically (appealing to Big-10 presidents). SMU might be a good geographic partner in the Pac-X with Texas State. But the Big-12 may be lurking to pick off a bunch of these schools; they have been aggressive in expansion

Technically he did leave on his own accord. But it was a delicate dance where OSU wanted to move on and he wanted to save face. Fired might have been a strong word but lots of rumors amongst alumni at that time that he was being pushed out because the Beavs wanted a change.

Smith is 3-0 this year. Give him another year to get things in place. He is a pretty good coach.
