Gonna be interesting to see how this Slovenia Germany game today goes. Germany no doubt has the overall talent, Slovenia no doubt has the most talented player. Looks like Germany is heavily favored in this one. Slovenias role players are going to be the deciding factor. Slovenia needs to watch out for Dennis Schröder, if he gets going he can pull out a Doncic level performance. Germany leads the head to head 4-3 in the Doncic era. Many of the games haven’t been close, 10-20 point wins on either side save a few 6-8 point wins.
Germany mounting a furious comeback in the second. Luka not really going Super Saiyan rn, or yet at least.
Luka getting going up to 22 now before half Slovenia 49-43 Germany :58 left in the second If you have first pick in FL and don’t take Luka…
Luka has 4 fouls (5 to foul out) going into the 4th Gonna be interesting to see how Slovenia plays this because he’s been sitting on 4 fouls since midway through the 3rd. Unlike the NBA he can’t count on star treatment in this one.
Game changed after Luka picked up that 4th foul. Germany’s run from there on out was too much for Slovenia.
Germany currently making short work of Finland in one semifinal. The real battle (with plenty of bad blood given the nations' history) will be Greece vs. Turkey later. Germany looking like something of a juggernaut. Like their football teams - they don't have flashy standout stars, they just work like a well-oiled machine.
Finland made it close at the end but lose 92-89. Still, 4th is pretty damn good for a country with a population of 5.6 million. Giannis was NOT about to lose - 30, 17 and 6.
FWIW Germany was pretty heavily favored in this competition, so even if you were a betting man - the odds wouldn’t have really been great for you. Either way, nice call. Turkey made that a game though. But in the end the overall talent of Germany was too much for everyone they faced.
So: Germany beats Turkey for the title. Dennis Schröder (whom I wanted us to draft in the CJ draft) is MVP "All Star Five" is Schröder, Sengun, Doncic, Giannis, Wagner (no Jokic!) Second team features DENI AVDIJA, Jokic, Markkanen, Cedi Osman (remember him?) and Jordan Lloyd, the very American Pole. Best defender (who had a great final) Isaac Bonga. He was a starter for Germany over Tristan Da Silva, and if we didn't have a million forwards like him I'd say try to get him. Best youngster: SLIM JESUS! (My take: he's like that Czech player Jan Veseley - everyone in Europe gets excited about him because he's athletic for Europe, but it turns out he doesn't have a great all-round game. He's not a star-in-waiting) My other take: there's a real shortage of good PGs in Europe. Apart from Doncic (who is basically a PG and a SG and maybe more of the latter) there was nobody to rival Schröder. Where are the Rubios and Parkers and even Jasikeviciuses and Spanoulises and Diamantideses of yesteryear?
