Rankings don't really matter to me. Win enough to get to the playoffs and keep developing our young players. I believe in Lanning and what he is building. We will get there with him.
the rivalry died when the Pac-12 died again, for a P4 team to schedule a home-&-home with a G6 team is dumb scheduling. No elite P4 team will schedule those games in the future. Ohio State hasn't done it and doesn't in the future; same for Michigan, Alabama, LSU, Georgia, Miami, Clemson the only one I can find is Penn St, playing at Temple in 2026, with Temple visiting in 2027. But it's only a 2-season series. There was a 10 year gap between the last time they played Temple and 2026 ********************************************** and you're absolutely wrong about the Ducks not being punished: *They were ranked 3rd when they played Idaho with 1403 points; they dropped to 7th after that game with 1197 points, losing 206 points. *After they squeaked by Boise St they dropped to 9th with 1077 points, losing another 120 points. * they then clobbered OSU by 35 points, in Corvallis, and remained at 9th with 1093 points. So they beat Idaho and Boise St. in 'close' game, lose 336 points and drop from 3rd to 9th in the poll. They crush OSU and only gain 16 points in the polls * the next week, the Ducks travel to another FBS school, UCLA, beat them 34-13, gain 123 points and move from 9th to 6th in the ranking. In other words, the Ducks actually got credit for beating a P4 team. And even though they were 3-0 against Idaho-Boise St-OSU, they got dinged there is no upside in a home & home series with the beavers, only downside
I agree. I think it's really important to get big leads so the backups get a chance to develop with real game experience. It seems to me the opportunity for playing time could also be a good selling point to recruits.
With the unfortunate end of the Pac12 & now being in their respective conferences, of course there is a huge gap in TV revenue giving Oregon a nearly insurmountable advantage. From UO's programs perspective continuing the rivalry will be an early season tuneup game to work out the kinks that doesn't involve flying across the country for away games while for Oregon State it will be a payday. For a while at least it's still going to be an occasion for the fanbases. STOMP
You seemed to have left out the part where they were #1 in the country by late October. What a punishment those non-conference games turned out to be. Clearly, who they played in those September non-conference games made no difference.
Here’s another point I think is missing. That Beavers game will provide stats for certain players looking to pad their Heisman hopes. The team also will get one more chance to bolster that yds per game, yds per play, sacks, pts scored/allowed type statistics that seem to hold water in certain areas. The Beavers are essentially another tune up game where they could work in new wrinkles on offense or defense. On top of all of that that game this week could be a simple keep em sharp but don’t get anyone hurt type one half to three quarters type game. In this case Penn State already is gearing up for the Ducks. You can bet they will be watching.
because they continued to beat P4 teams, not because they beat G6 teams. It isn't rocket science...for elite teams, the best they can hope for from beating G6 teams is gaining about the same credit they get for a bye but my bigger point has always been that Oregon is stupid to be scheduling road games at a G6 program. If they are going to have home-and-home, do like all of their P4 peers are doing and make it a 2 season home-and-home against a P4 team. For instance they had one of those with Texas Tech. The Red Raiders were scheduled to play at Autzen last season, but Oregon cancelled their visit in order to travel to Corvallis. I know a lot of season ticket holders who were really pissed off about that
Right, beating the P4 teams is all that matters. They are now in a conference where they just need to be in the top 4 in the conference to make the playoffs. Assuming they don't lose too many games during non-conference play. So if beating a team like the Beavs is like having a bye, so be it. Although I think some of you are underestimating the Beavs in the future. They have sucked in the past, and they will suck in the future....but not every year.
You are saying you personally know a lot of season ticket holders that were upset that they played the Beavers in Corvallis instead of Texas Tech? That seems like it would cancel itself out by the numerous ticket holders that were happy to see the Civil War game still being played.
IDK? I just hear a bunch of people wanting to keep this game going. Most don't really care about revenue for the school or what the win will look like at the end of the season. It's the Civil War game. Original Divided House game in a bunch of towns throughout the state.
I think you're really overrating the depth of the 'keep it going' sentiment. Most OSU fans don't want it and I think a majority of Oregon fans don't want it, especially at the expense of some compelling OOC games the Ducks might schedule against other P4 teams. What I've heard is that one Oregon fan who wants to keep it going is Knight, so it's going
If the Beavers were to go undefeated in the Pac-12 next year, which playoffs would they be in? The same one that the Ducks were in last year? So the Ducks and Beavers are considered to be on the same level in college football. If the Beavers want to compete at the highest level, they need to play their traditional in-state rival.
