<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Chargers to send draft pick to Titans for QB VolekAssociated PressThe Chargers agreed in principle to acquire quarterback Billy Volek from Tennessee on Tuesday, giving San Diego a veteran to back up first-year starter Philip Rivers.Volek's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, told The Associated Press that Volek was in the process of signing the form to waive his no-trade clause."It's a formality at this point," Rosenhaus said. "We just have to take care of that piece of paperwork, then Billy will be on his way back home to California."The Chargers are believed to be giving up a sixth-round draft pick that could escalate to a fifth-rounder, depending on Volek's playing time.</div>For More - http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2593817
A lot went on behind closed doors in this situation, there was no point in Volek staying here. He wanted out, Titans wanted Volek out, but wanted SOMETHING in return for him, and SD wanted someone with a little experience backing up Rivers instead of Whitehurst. Everyone wins here.I do think it's funny that people keep emphasizing Volek as being experienced when he only has 10 starts in a 7-year career. Not that I've seen anyone here or in this thread, just in general.

According to a guy from the TOMB who knows Billy's family, Chow called out Volek during a team meeting and ripped into him for 15-20 minutes. After the meeting Volek asked to speak with Chow in his office. They apparently had a war of words and Fisher sided with Chow. Of course, you have to consider the source in that little situation. And Volek was never interested in competing for the starting position, which was originally why Collins was brought in. His "demand" to be traded came the day after Collins was signed. There's not a whole lot of the Titans organization to be proud of right now. There's some internal strife somewhere, similar to what happened right before the Oilers moved to Tennessee (minus the stadium problems). The Oilers got into some bad stuff, and Bud Adams (owner) stepped in and things got ugly. I'm afraid the same thing is happening now.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Titans' Fisher rips Volek, says QB lied to himAssociated PressNASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Coach Jeff Fisher lashed out at critics of the Tennessee Titans' dealings with Billy Volek, saying Wednesday that Volek lied to him and never took advantage of the opportunity to be the starter. The Titans finally traded Volek on Tuesday to the San Diego Chargers for a sixth-round draft pick that could become a fifth-rounder depending on playing time. Fisher said Volek asked to be traded the day the Titans signed Kerry Collins late last month."I never at anytime in my career have gone into such detail [about a trade]. But I felt the responsibility, as Billy felt he was thrown under the bus," Fisher said. "Billy threw this organization under the bus, along with a number of his teammates."It was unprecedented public criticism by Fisher, who repeatedly has protected his players.Volek inherited the quarterback job when the Titans traded Steve McNair to Baltimore in June, and Fisher claimed it was in the first week after Volek was made the starter during the offseason that the quarterback lied to the coach.Fisher wouldn't say what the lie was.Fans have been vehemently critical of the Titans for not giving Volek the chance to start the season, and the team is 0-2 with Collins as a starter.Fisher said he met with Volek in his office Tuesday and was told the quarterback had no hard feelings.Volek told several reporters on his way to the airport that he got a raw deal and didn't know why he went from starter to third-stringer before the season.</div>http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2596277
Chris Mortensen & one of the guys from NFL Live (don't remember his name) have backed what Fisher said.Mortenson said that Volek missed some sort of workouts and told Fisher he was out of town, when he actually was in town.
