lol you guys have 2 aging stars( Randy and Mussina) who can barely pitch. best starter in wang and nothing else. Once again we only need 6 or 7 innings from pitchers because of our pen. You guys need to rely more on pitching.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Nebkreb @ Sep 28 2006, 11:41 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>ur SP is truly garbage, which is a shame because ur Bullpen is so good, and ur lineup is so talented. You have 2 aging stars (pedro and glavine) who can barely pitch, 1 random guy (Duque) and young guns. I think u may have to wait a year or two.</div>I wouldn't call it garbage, if anything its a bit underrated. Orlando Hernandez has pitched great coming down the stretch. In his last 5 starts he has allowed 7 Earned Runs in 32.1 Innings and is pitching some of the best baseball of the year. Plus you Yankees fans know as well as we do that El Duque is Clutch when it comes to pitching in Big Games. Tom Glavine also has pitched pretty well coming down the stretch, only giving up 8 Earned Runs in 26.1 Innings in his last 4 Starts. Not to mention he has a 14-7 record on the season and an ERA under 4. John Maine has been argueably our best Starting Pitcher this season, posting a 3.64 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP in his 84 Innings this season. Yes, he is young but he seems like the kind of pitcher who wouldnt fall apart in the big stage by what I've seen from him this season. Steve Trachsel is 15-8 as a pitcher this season, yes, he hasnt pitched great but he is leading the league in Run Support and as long as the hitters keep putting up an average of like 8 runs for him a start, I couldn't care less how he pitches. lolYes, we definately need to get Younger and Better this offseason, but with the Weak NL I dont see any reason why they couldn't get the job done well enough even without Pedro Martinez. We did win something like 80 plus games that Pedro Martinez did not start this season. :whistling:

the weak NL will do niothing, but u aint beating the yanks, Twins As or Tigers in the WS. pedros out. Glavine is doing bad. Duque is nothing close to what he was. he will give u one GEM, and nothinf else. Trachsel is steve trachsel. maine is a rookie.Randy Johnson is not as good as when he was younger, but he still won 17 games, and got big SOs. Wang is a Cy young 3rd place (behind hallady and santana). Mussina is a great pitcher, especially on the road. id take Mussina/Randy/Wang over Glavine/Duque/Trachsel 7 days a week.

But since May 1st, the Mets are 6-12 in Games in Which Pedro Martinez has started with an ERA of Exactly 5. He has played hurt just about the entire season and hasnt been effective for most of it. Do you really think he is going to be such a critical loss when he contributed little to nothing to our Success after April? El Duque has an ERA of 1.69 his past 6 starts. Including Tonights Game, he has allowed 7 ER in his past 37.1 Innings. Old Man can still get the job done.Glavine is doing bad? Over his past 4 starts he has an ERA of 2.75 while allowing only 8 ER in his past 26.1 Innings. He has come back refreshed from his 'scare' and has pitched Great Baseball as of late. John Maine is a rookie. So what? He is a part of a heavy veteran pitching staff to keep him from getting too excited, and I dont think he is the kind of pitcher who will crack under pressure. Fact of the matter is he has a 3.64 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP and he has done well in Big Games in the Regular Season. I'll take my chances with him. Steve Trachsel is Steve Trachsel, but he is also a 4th Starter after Pedro's injury who will likely only Start One Game. He is also leading the league in Run Support. As long as our bats can give him some decent run production, which they almost always do, we will be fine.Even without Pedro, the Mets can play with anybody in the league because of a Dominant Lineup and a Dominant Bullpen to compliment their decent starting pitching, and you are being completely foolish if you honestly think otherwise.

they can play with anyone in the NATIONAL league.and your defense of losing ur #1 guy is that he wasnt that good to begin with?? you cannot seriously think the mets would be better off with Steve Trachsel than Pedro (when healthy).Rookie are uncertains. alot of rookie pitch great in "big" games duringt he regular season and crack during the postseason. all im saying is we dont know.
