<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Both Ravens linebacker Bart Scott and kicker Matt Stover are key factors in why the Baltimore is sitting atop the AFC North at 3-0, and the NFL has taken notice. For their efforts, Scott was announced as the AFC Defensive Player of the Month for September, while Stover garnered AFC Special Teams Player of the Month honors.Through three contests, Scott has emerged as one of the premier playmakers on the league's second-ranked defense. The tenacious fifth-year veteran is second on the Ravens with 24 tackles and tied for first with cornerback Chris McAlister with five passes defensed. What's more impressive is Scott's ability to get to the quarterback. The 6-2, 240-pounder has been a terror in opposing teams' backfields, recording five sacks, good for tops in the NFL (tied with Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Trent Cole), and numerous quarterback hurries."It is flattering, but it's early yet," said Scott after Wednesday's practice when asked about his sack status. "It's a marathon; they don't give out prizes for the first month or the first three games of the season."Actually, they do, and Scott's stellar performances will force him to clear off a little room on his mantle for his first professional award.Stover's mantle, on the other hand, is stocked. In his 17-year career, he's been named AFC Special Teams Player of the Month twice (September, 1997 and October, 2000) and has garnered the weekly honor six times, in addition to making a Pro Bowl appearance in 2000.This season, the third-most accurate kicker in NFL history is a perfect nine-for-nine on field goal attempts, even hitting a franchise- and personal-best 29 kicks in a row. Stover is also flawless on five PATs to lead the Ravens with 32 points. His game-winning, 52-yard boot with 20 seconds remaining in last week's Cleveland game is a testament to what Stover means to this Ravens team."We've got all the confidence in the world in Matt," said tight end Todd Heap. With the Ravens' next game - versus the San Diego Chargers - taking place on October 1, these two players can start building a case for next month's award this week.</div>http://www.baltimoreravens.com/news/article.jsp?id=12773Finally Scott is getting recognition. Honestly, the sacks surprised me but he always was a very solid performer behind Ray Lewis.
Good job Bart.Stover is a clutch kicker, I hope he never retires. When he comes on the filed, it's like BOOM! 3 POINTS!
Yup. That 54 yarder 2 weeks ago... I knew it was going in.And Bart Scott is a ****in beast. 15 tackles last week (for an OLB who plays beside Ray Lewis)? Wow
Bart Scott isn't all that great. He's a right system/right talent around him productive role player. Put him on the Saints and he's a mediocre LB.
Depends on how you look at it. He'd definately get more attention from the lineman but with the Ravens he has to fight for tackles with Ray Lewis and Adalius Thomas.
