Re: NFL Films "The Chin Strap" There was a segment on ESPN, presented by NFL Films on the Chin strap. It was actually quite funny. Don Maynard never wore a chin strap recalled how he was clotheslined once, and the defender broke his arm while he got a concussion. He said later the defender told him "You ended my career" but Maynard said "I may have ended his career, but since that hit I've never been quite right in the head, so I guess it was a fair trade."They recalled how Terry Bradshaw didn't wear a chin strap at all as he didn't like how it felt when players would yank on his face mask. He said "At the time I figured it was safter to have my helmet ripped off than my head turned backwards."Brett Favre doesn't like wearing a chin strap, and only wears one because league rules say he has to. But after every play he unsnaps it. Interestingly enough, Matt Hasslebeck picked up this trait when he was Favre's backup and it has never left him. He said "I figured if Brett ever went down, and I had to step up and play that it was best for me to be as much like him as possible. So I started calling plays like him, walking like him, using the same phrases as him, and yeah, unsnapping my chin strap after every play." Hasslebeck goes on to say "What's bad is one of the things they fine you here for in Seattle is unsnapping your chin strap before the play is over *Spotlight to film of Matt unsnapping while he watched Alexander rumble for 20 or so yards down the field* Yeah, my first game starting they decided to waive all the fines because I would have been fined on every single play."They go on to talk about how some players should be happy they have them and show clips such as Chad Pennington running a QB sneak against the Bears, and the Bears defender grabbing his facemask from behind under the pile and attempting to drag him by it backwards half a yard in an effort to have the ball market short of the first down; Joey Porter tackling Jamal Lewis and slamming his knee down onto Lewis' helmet as he stood back up after the play was over; and Mike Doss getting plowed over by Jerome Bettis and his own teammate accidentally stepping on his head.I don't why I'm writing all this out. Probably because there was nothing interesting that was new here posted, and I thought what was on TV was cool to watch.
