? Some observers around the league were surprised at the size of the contract extension the Jets paid to OLB Bryan Thomas, who recently signed a five-year, $25 million deal that included a reported $9 million in guaranteed money. But we hear the team believes Thomas is an excellent fit for its 3-4 defense, as evidenced by his career-best 7? sacks this season while rushing the passer from his hybrid OLB-DE position.? Word is, the list of veteran players who are likely to be released by the Jets following this season has grown to include RB Kevan Barlow, CB David Barrett, ORT Anthony Clement, OL Adrian Jones, WR Justin McCareins, DT C.J. Mosley and QB Patrick Ramsey, among others.? We hear that the season-ending foot injury suffered by Jets WR Tim Dwight will give rookie Brad Smith the opportunity to prove he's more than a gimmick player. Our sources tell us that Smith will line up in the slot and work the underneath routes in the middle of the field. He must prove to the coaches that he can get open and is tough enough to take hits.

He takes up a lot of cap space.David Barrett - He's underrated as a corner, but he is paid a lot.Adrian Jones - What a waste of space. "Better option than drafting D'Brickashaw" [IMG] Justin McCareins - We traded a 2nd round pick for him instead of signing Darrell Jackson why? Oh right, because McCareins was the "Possesion reciever" with height that we needed. Thomas should have been a little less money on the contract. He was a good extension nonetheless.
