<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>NEW YORK (AP) -- The Yankees and Arizona reached a tentative agreement Thursday on a trade that would send Randy Johnson back to Arizona, a move that allows the Big Unit's agents to get him a contract extension. The teams informed the commissioner's office of the trade specifics, a baseball official said, speaking on condition of anonymity because no announcement had been made.Arizona would send relief pitcher Luis Vizcaino to the Yankees along with minor league right-handers Ross Ohlendorf and Steven Jackson, and shortstop Alberto Gonzalez, another baseball official said, also on condition of anonymity. The Yankees also would pay between $1.5 million and $2 million of Johnson's $16 million salary this year.</div>Full Story Here
YAY!!! The Unit-Era is over! :beerbang2: Luis Vizcaino, a very good middle reliever.Plus we get 3 prospects I've never heard of.Plus we only cover 2 mil of RJ's contract.NICE!

I'm pretty happy that the Yankees got rid of RJ.Also in the article that no one has picked up on, they picked Doug Mienkievitch? I have no idea how to spell his name. The guy who was on the Sox and sued for the ball.

Last I heard he decided he wanted two years, and I think we only want to offer one.As far as the deal goes..I'm not as happy as I thought I would be. All that talk about Dustin Nippert and Micah Owings, and we wind up with Ohlendorf, my least favorite (and probably the worst) of the three. Not by a huge margin, but Owings and Nippert have #3 starter stuff, maybe #2 for Owings if he turns out right. However I can't complain at all as a Yankee fan. I never thought we'd get rid of Johnson this year, and I'm estatic we were able to do so. This is the first time we're getting rid of a big name, superstar HoF player for a young group of players. But I still can't help but be disappointed at the fact that we got two marginal prospects in Jackson and Gonzalez, a reliever that will be gone after the season, and the third best of three possible starting prospects. It's not as impressive of a group as it could have been. However getting Johnson's salary basically off the books and leaving a pretty big vacancy at the top half of the rotation leads me to believe one thing......Carlos Zambrano in '08 anybody? :whistling: :whistling: :whistling:

Brian Bruney = Aaron Small. Can defy all logic for part of one good season, but not good enough to keep it up over a long period of time. Karstens won't be in the bullpen IMO. At this point, id expect him to win the #5 job over Pavano (Who will probably go on the 60 day DL for a Hangnail). The Yankees are however a very solid team on paper (...And I'd hope so with their payroll), but until they get some hitters who will be successful in October I wonder just how successful they will be.
Aaron Small was 34 when he went 10-0, and really had no previous major league experience that was notable. No one really expected him to have a big season the next year, he got by with no real stuff.Brian Bruney is going to be 25 when the season starts, and has shown that he can throw gas. If we don't overwork him like Torre seems to love to do with our relievers, he'll be gold.I wouldn't be too excited to see Karstens in the rotation. Should Pavano fall off, he may be the short term answer, but I wouldn't mind seeing Philip Hughes get the call in the middle of the year to be our #5 guy. And if Karstens falls off in long relief, I can't say I wouldn't like seeing Humberto Sanchez up here either.
Guys, get it out of your head. Big Z is not joining the Evil Empire. We're going to lock him in Spring Training

Zambrano is licking his chops thinking about what he's going to be offered next year.

He has no previous major league experience that was notable as positive as he posted a 7.5 ERA back with Arizona. And Dude, do you have any idea how many 24-25 year olds there are littered across AA who throw as hard, if not harder, then Bruney. Throwing Gas doesn't make you successful, being able to locate it (as Bruney clearly has not been able to as shown by his 15 walks in 20 innings) and having other pitches to keep them away from guessing at your heat does. His WHIP was pretty poor last season at 1.40 and shows to me that to a certain degree he was lucky to get out of as many jams as he did and it's only a matter of time until he comes back to earth. I don't think either Hughes or Sanchez are ready right now, maybe at midseason, but you'd have to go through a half season of Karstens, Rasner, or Pavano just to get to that point.

I realized something else today. This shortens the gap even more between the payroll of the Red Sox and the Yankees. Pretty soon the Sox will have highest payroll at this rate.

I mean hell, it only costs half a mil per year to name a stadium after your business (part of the reason the Cubs haven't re-named Wrigley, it's not all that profitable to do so).Are the Cubs going to get on TV more than before? No. Are their merchandise sales going to go up? Im sure the Cubs could get more then 1/2 mill per year. lol
