The Jets would then explore signing him long term. San Diego is reportedly now looking at running back prospects, possibly Penn State's Tony Hunt. Jan. 23 - 2:56 pm et Source: scout.com</div>
I was thinking one of their second rounders would be about an equal trade. This would be yet another draft steal for the Chargers. (add it to the Manning Debacle & the Vick/Tomlinson trade)
I agree with PPE, he's done very very great off the bench. But has he carried the load for a team enough to be worthy of a first round pick? I don't think so (Jets fans will though).
A bunch of things to keep in mind about this potential move - Great Size (5-10, 237)- Great Speed (4.42 40 Yard Dash)- Still Pretty Young with Fresh Legs (24 Years Old, only 157 NFL Rushing Attempts the past 3 years.)- Already had 3 years of NFL Teaching and Coaching, working behind a Hall-of-Fame Runningback and is used to an NFL-style Lifestyle already.- Run a Similar Offensive System in San Diego,- Extremely Productive in College (2 Time All-American, Semi-Finalist for Nations Top RB award, 1900 Yards his Junior Season, 1600 his Senior Season)- Extremely Productive in Limited Duty in the Pros (Career 6.0 Yards Per Attempt)- Does Not Fumble (Only 2 Fumbles in last 508 College Rushing Attempts, 1 Fumble in 157 NFL Rushing Attempts)- Regarded as a Good Character Individual- Coaches say he is a better inside runner then LT.- Can Also Kick Return (Doesn't help us much now, but good insurance if Miller was to get hurt)- Brian Shottenheimer (Now Jets OC) has coached his team for his First 2 seasons and has seen him work out up close and personally to know what kind of player he will be.Personally, I like the move as I've been a fan of Turner's for a while now (Some of you might remember me saying the Jets should pursue him this preseason after Curtis Martin had his Bone-on-Bone knee issue). I wish we weren't paying as much, and hell, I'll be the first one to admit we're probably overpaying if this report is true, but I like him enough that I don't care. We're not going to get a better Runningback through the draft at the 25th overall pick as Peterson and Lynch will be gone, and Turner is light-years ahead of Bush and Irons IMO.
This is only a rumor, not anything official as of yet..Just making sure everyone knew that as the thread title is misleading and I was actually kind of excited because I thought I had missed it until now There's a back like this every year. It was Chester Taylor last year and LaMont Jordan the year before. Of course they didnt go for first rounders, but they were both promising career backups that teams were willing to put a lot of stock into. Both have arguably worked, and I think Turner is above Taylor's and Jordan's level, so this would probably be a calculated risk by the Jets despite it definitely being questionable right now.
If I'm the Jets, I offer their own 2nd rounder and a 5th rounder for him, that way it seems fair. If not trade the earlier pick, I believe 6th pick of the 2nd round (??), and ask for Turner and probably a 4th rounder.
It's not a matter of what the Jets want to give, it all depends on the tender the Chargers put on him. It's more than likely to be a 1st rounder.
What I'm saying is if they won't do it for that make that offer. If they don't take it, draft Kenny Irons or Michael Bush and let the Chargers find nobody to trade with.
You aren't going to get a better back through the draft with their pick though as adrop said. They are thinking about the now, not 2-3 years from now.

That way you have a better 2nd rounder still left and a higher 1st.
