<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Surf's up?Jan 31 - The Padres have temporarily tabled a trade offer from Philadelphia that would have brought outfielder Aaron Rowand to San Diego for reliever Scott Linebrink, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports."It might be something we discuss again later this spring," Padres GM Kevin Towers told the newspaper. "But right now, I want to see what we have in spring training. I want to see how [outfielder] Terrmel Sledge plays and how our bullpen shapes up."Tuesday, January 30 Final pitch?Jan 30 - Don't be surprised if Tom Glavine calls it a career after this season. The 40-year-old lefty has a one-year contract for 2007 and says there's no better than a "50-50 chance" he'll be pitching in 2008, The New York Post reports."I think that if, knock on wood, I stay healthy and I win my 300th game, then it becomes really hard for me to pitch next year," said Glavine, who owns 290 career victories. Just say no dealJan 30 - Todd Helton will not be going to the Red Sox. The Rockies called off talks after both sides refused to budge. Boston agreed to pay $53.5 million of Helton's remaining $90.1 million contract, but the team would not part with Manny Delcarmen or Craig Hansen, both relief pitchers. The Rockies wouldn't settle for significant financial relief and third baseman Mike Lowell and reliever Julian Tavarez. Patience is a virtueJan 30 - Roger Clemens still hasn't decided if he'll pitch this year, but if he does pitch again, he doesn't plan on playing a full season, the Houston Chronicle reports."I'll be in spring training [helping with the Astros' minor leaguers] and that's as far as I can tell you," Clemens, 44, told the newspaper. "I hear everything that everybody else is saying. I get updates about once every two weeks from the Hendricks brothers [agents Randy and Alan]. Most of the teams are saying, if I decide, they don't want me to do anything until May or June."If they call, it will be a big decision on my part again. I have fun doing it, but it's a lot of work. That will be a tough decision again. I'm not even interested in playing right now." Change of heartJan 30 - Curt Schilling plans to pitch in 2008 and has already begun discussions with the Red Sox on a contract extension, the Boston Globe reports. Schilling, 40, will earn $13 million this season and said he would likely be looking for a similar contract for 2008.Schilling's original plan was to retire after the 2007 season, but his family convinced him to continue playing at least one more season after the upcoming one.Monday, January 29 Sayonara, Seattle?Jan 29 - Ichiro Suzuki could hit the trade market this year, the Chicago Tribune reports. The Mariners' lack of recent success has been a disappointment for Ichiro, and he's a free agent after this season.Still, GM Bill Bavasi doesn't believe the Japanese star is aggravated enough to consider his options elsewhere. "It's a top priority, but the timing is not that important," Bavasi said about getting Suzuki signed to an extension. "It's not going to be a huge issue. He's a special player, but I think Seattle is a special place for him too."Suzuki is in the last season of a four-year, $44 million deal.</div>
