It is very important for each member of my coaching staff to be an excellent teacher, and Greg certainly fits that role.” A former All-Madden Team selection, Greg Manusky has developed the Chargers? linebacking corps into one of the league?s best. In five years as a pro coach, Manusky has sent four players to the Pro Bowl, including Merriman in 2006, LaVar Arrington with Washington in 2001, and Donnie Edwards and Junior Seau with San Diego in 2002. Merriman, Arrington and Edwards all went to their first-career Pro Bowls under Manusky. Manusky spent 12 years as an NFL player and was known as a hard-nosed workhorse. Those characteristics enabled him to play in 113 consecutive games during his career, a streak that spanned more than seven seasons. Following the 1991 season, he was selected to the All-Madden Team put together by Hall of Fame broadcaster and former coach, John Madden. Manusky?s playing career included stops in Washington (1988-90), Minnesota (1991-93) and Kansas City (1994-99). In each of his six seasons with the Chiefs, Manusky either led or tied for the team lead in special teams tackles. After retiring from the NFL in 1999, Manusky spent the 2000 season as a volunteer at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers? training camp where he worked with the linebackers and special teams. One year later, he accepted a job as linebackers coach with the Redskins. Manusky was born Aug. 12, 1966 in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. He prepped at Dallas High School in his hometown and then went on to Colgate University where he was a four-year letterman and an All-Colonial League selection. He was named the league?s Defensive Player of the Year as a senior and graduated with degrees in education and geology. Terms of the contracts were not announced by the team. Lewis was scheduled to become a restricted free agent at the start of the free agency period this March. Lewis (6-0, 210) is entering his fourth NFL season. He originally joined San Francisco as a sixth-round (198th overall) draft pick in 2004 out of Oregon. Known as a hard hitter, Lewis turned his expertise on special teams into a starting spot in the 49ers secondary. He had a career year in 2006, recording nine starts, 72 tackles, two interceptions, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
