Re: 'Defense wins Championships': The Debate So here's the question, after watching the Bears defense go down in flames to Peyton Manning and crew, do great defenses really win Championships?I think Great Quarterbacks win Championships, not Defenses. Here's something to think about, entering this year, 88% of Super Bowl Winning Quarterbacks made the Pro-Bowl in the same season. All-Time Great QB'sElway - 2 RingsFavre - 1 RingBrady - 3 RingsManning - 1 RingMontana - 4 RingsYoung - 1 RingAikman - 3 RingsOutside of Marino, almost every single Great Quarterback has a Super Bowl Ring.
Re: 'Defense wins Championships': The Debate The Colts defense held the Bears offense. You need a good QB, but you also need good D

They did as much to give the game away as the Colts Defense did.

But I think the clutch Third Down Conversions to keep the Bears off the field, the 29 points the Colts scored and dominating the Bears in terms of yardage all game long had alot to do with it also. :whistling:
Re: 'Defense wins Championships': The Debate That most-overused-saying-in-the-history-of-sports holds true, but I really think it should be changed a little bit.Yes, defense wins championships, but the offense has to eventually score. The saying should be something more like "Championships aren't won without defense."
Re: 'Defense wins Championships': The Debate The saying is still true IMO. Thing is, the Bears just didn't play championship defense today. They couldn't generate a pass-rush, and Chris Harris had that badly blown coverage deep which left Wayne wide open for that touchdown. I know they've been without Tommie Harris for a while now, but they were really missing him today in the middle. Defense does win championships, the Bears defense just isn't what everyone thinks/thought it was.
