Chargers | Turner receives high tender offerWed, 28 Feb 2007 17:43:22 -0800Kevin Acee, of the San Diego Union-Tribune, reports the San Diego Chargers have tendered RB Michael Turner, a restricted free agent, with a one-year, $2.35 million tender. Turner can negotiate with other teams but the Chargers would have the ability to match any offer. If they chose not to match, they would receive a first-round and third-round pick as compensation for him from the other squad. Strictly a negotiating ploy IMO.

Not surprising. This would only be a story if they DIDN'T give him the highest tender offer...

It would have been stupid of them, but they could have.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>NY DAILY NEWSRich CiminiThe Chargers gave Turner, a restricted free agent, the highest tender, $2.35 million. That means, if they decide not to match an offer, they'd be entitled to first- and third-round picks. Teams are allowed to negotiate draft-pick compensation, but Chargers GM A.J. Smith doesn't sound like he's going to budge."It's over," Smith emphatically told the Daily News. "It'll take a 1 and a 3."</div>What I took from the quote was his unwillingness to negotiate, and the only way they'd get rid of him is if someone coughs up both picks. If that's the case, I agree that it's over and Turner will be in San Diego next year as well. I thought just a First Rounder was a slight overpay, this would be a ridiculous overpay.

Our 1st should be more than plenty. Demanding a 1st and 3rd is absurd. He'll walk for nothing a year from now.
