<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Report: Packers to discuss trade for MossGREEN BAY, Wisc. -- The Green Bay Packers' leadership is expected to discuss a potential trade for wide receiver Randy Moss when it meets on Tuesday. A trade sending Moss from the Oakland Raiders to Green Bay is already in discussion stages, the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reported, saying according to an unnamed league source, general manager Ted Thompson has already been in direct talks with Raiders owner Al Davis about the move. According to sources, the teams have discussed the trade for a month and the Packers have been given permission to talk to Moss' agent about restructuring his contract. "They're going to get rid of him," the source said, according to the Journal-Sentinel. "I think they think they can trade him. And I know Green Bay has interest." Thompson has refused to discuss whether he would deal for Moss. The newspaper reported Tim DiPiero, Moss's agent, was unavailable for comment. "Ted has not spent a lot of time talking to me about it, quite honestly," Packers chairman of the board Bob Harlan told the Journal-Sentinel. "Ted always starts out our meetings with a football report so he may get into that." Harlan told the newspaper he has been taking calls, faxes and e-mails from Packers fans on the possible trade, with negative responses still outnumbering the positive. "I'd say it's been maybe 65-35 percent [anti-Moss]," Harlan said. He also said the Packers remain concerned about player character issues and public perception of the team as a classy organization. "One man wrote, 'Moody. Excess baggage. Disruptive. Do any of these words sound like alarm bells to you?' " Harlan told the Journal-Sentinel. "One guy called from out of state and said, 'Bob, I'd rather see you go 0-16 than do that.' Isn't that something?" But not all the feedback on Moss is negative, he added. "People say to me, 'Brett [Favre] needs a big target. I know he's got baggage but he's never hurt anybody,' " Harlan told the newspaper. "Today, they were all, 'Take a chance.'"Randy Moss Wide Receiver2006 SEASON STATISTICS Rec Yds TD Avg Long YAC 42 553 3 13.2 51 127</div>

I'm sure that Randy Moss will suddenly be the greatest player of all time to green bay fans if this goes through. Kind of like Darren Sharper suddenly becoming the worst safety in the game when he came to minnesota.

(Favre + Moss) + (Grossman starting + Briggs out) = Bears not winning the Norris

I forgot. [IMG] :thumbsup:DAM IT McCASKEY!!BTW - I wrote this piece for UIC's paper (I'm a student there, but I want to transfer to Mizzou)<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>What was Jerry Angelo thinking, trading away the Bears' best running back since Walter Payton, to move up 26 spots in the second round of the draft?Last week, the Bears made a horrible deal and shipped off workhorse running back Thomas Jones and their second-round draft pick, the 63rd selection, for the Jets' second-round, 37th selection. Chicago Sun-Times columnist Jay Mariotti called what the Bears got in return "a clump of lint."Here in the City of Weak Shoulders, where the backup quarterback is the most popular player on the team among the fans, Jones was the most dependable part of the offense. He put up back-to-back 1,200 yard seasons, something not accomplished since Payton.Jones' dominance extended through the 07' playoffs, running for 301 yards in 3 games. They expect Cedric Benson to take over for Jones? So far, Benson has shown he is not capable of being the leading rusher. He has admitted to losing focus during play. In a game vs. the Minnesota Vikings, after scoring a fourth-down touchdown, Benson said he didn't realize it was fourth-down. Having your leading running back lose focus during the game is serious cause for concern. In Jones' 3 years in Chicago, he carried the ball 850 times for 3,493 yards. His ranks in league rushing from '04-'06 were 19, 9, and 11. Furthermore, Jones battled numerous injuries and was still able to play and perform at a high level. Jones was going to make $2.5 million with the Bears in 2007, a bargain relative to his performance and the current market in the NFL. Other elite backs in the league are making double or even triple what Jones was to make. Why must the Bears' front office short-change their players and coaches and not give them the dough they deserve? They have about $20 million to spend under the salary cap, yet they low-ball their players and refuse to discuss extensions. They did this to Lovie Smith before agreeing with him on an extension, they did this to Jones and Lance Briggs in the 2006 off-season, and they're at it again. Instead of focusing on winning the Super Bowl, the front-office is more concerned with maximizing their profit margins. As Mike Ditka once said, "[George Halas]throws nickels around like manhole covers."However, the worst part about this trade was not giving up Jones, but receiving nothing but a swap on second-round draft picks. The Bears could have gotten a first-round pick or some extra picks which they could package to move up high enough in the first-round to be able to select Ohio State Wide Receiver Ted Ginn Jr.With the offense as bad as it has been, the Bears need all the help they can get, and drafting Ginn would be a major boast. Ginn was a game-breaker at Ohio State, and has blazing speed. He can also return kicks; having him and Devin Hester would give other teams nightmares. With Briggs, if the Bears can get a high first round pick, let him go. Paul Posluzny from Penn State is a mighty good replacement and most draft boards have him available at # 31.If the Bears can replace Briggs and Jones with Ginn, Posluzny, and Ohio State Running Back Antonio Pittman, who should be available at 37, then the losses shouldn't hurt much.If not, what was an armed and dangerous team a month ago, will be a team fighting to make the playoffs in the Norris division of the Junior Varsity Conference known as the NFC.</div>

Bears will be no better than 9-7 next year. Favre WILL retire next offseason if moss comes to Green Bay. The packers will not win the division, with or without moss.

The Vikings have a worse shot than the Packers to win it (I know you weren't necessarily saying the Vikes will win it, I just thought I'd point this out).

Still, with the packers I know what i'm going to get. Plus people discount the loss of Ahman green from the packers. The vikings have lots of intangibles. Tarvaris could be great, he could be terrible. The offensive line could come together on the right side, it could keep its course. The vikes could draft 2 WR's in the draft and build a good unit or they could let it stand and roll with the worst in the NFL. Erasmus james could come back and help with the pass rush, he could be affected by nagging injuries. You never know. I'm not going to discount the vikings until free agency and the draft are over.
