Re: Mel Kiper: Don't be so hard on the Ginn pick Mel Kiper was on The Herd this morning, and when Colin said a terrible was the Dolphins reaching for Ted Ginn Jr. Kiper said that you can't really critisize a team for reaching anymore because no one wants to trade up. The Redskins were "desperately" trying to trade down and there were no takers. "The Dolphins could have moved down" is easy to say, but the Rams were supposedly in love with Ginn's skills as well, and how do you convince a 10-11-12 team to move up? You can't really. So you have to take your guy a little bit early, or not take him at all. The Redskins chose to go with a guy who isn't the best fit but was the best value because they were not able to trade down.He also pointed out that the it's also starting to show in what teams are trading, because you look at the draft this year and almost every trade up cost a team less on the points value chart than it should have, because it's terrible for a team to try and trade down. And even when a team WANTS to trade up (a la the Jets for Revis) they still hold the better hand of cards so they usually win out in the deal anyhow.

Re: Mel Kiper: Don't be so hard on the Ginn pick It's not that Ginn was a reach, it's that they passed on Brady Quinn to get Ginn.....

Re: Mel Kiper: Don't be so hard on the Ginn pick http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RaYgGSHJ5hMThat explains it all.
Re: Mel Kiper: Don't be so hard on the Ginn pick If you ask me, these guys like Ginn should definitely give half of their salary to Devin Hester. If it weren't for him, they would probably only be making half of the salary they will be this year.
Re: Mel Kiper: Don't be so hard on the Ginn pick At least they got John Beck (very luckily) in the 2nd round
Re: Mel Kiper: Don't be so hard on the Ginn pick Honestly you have to see where they're coming from. When you're picking in the top ten, you want a SPECIAL player, even if the SPECIAL is more or less hidden within potential. Ginn has that undenyable potential at the least, and Quinn is really just a "solid" QB, just like Beck can be.It was a surprise, but I think Ginn is a higher upside player.

That was never ever my issue. If you don't like a certain QB (they reportedly liked Beck more than Quinn anyways) then that's fine. My issue was that they drafted a player that will, for the duration of his rookie contract at the very least, will be a special teams player and role player. When you are drafting in the top 10, you need to get an impact player who can play from day one and make a difference in your offense or defense. IE Patrick Willis would be an ideal solution to their aging LB corps.
