Re: Rocket to Sign with Yankees!!!! I wouldn't be surprised if he got lit up. I don't know why.. I just have one of those feelings.
Re: Rocket to Sign with Yankees!!!! brooksie, you have that feeling, because any pitcher that has ever signed with the yankees in the past 5 years has gotten lit up. duh.
Re: Rocket to Sign with Yankees!!!! For 28 million? It would be hilarious if The Rocket knows he doesn't have anything left and came back just to get a paycheck.

Re: Rocket to Sign with Yankees!!!! ^^too much pridehow can you guys want this guy back, you guys have no pride.he freakin retires 3 years ago, you guys give him everything, a hummer, a shitload of stuff, a going away night, like, a retirement night, and then, to shove it in your guys' face, he returns to play for the astros, and now you guys welcome him back with open arms.you guys must have no honor huh?

He's actually getting about 18, which is a fair deal. And the rocket has his billion, he doesn't need to do that.<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (iknobaer @ May 6 2007, 04:06 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>^^too much pridehow can you guys want this guy back, you guys have no pride.he freakin retires 3 years ago, you guys give him everything, a hummer, a shitload of stuff, a going away night, like, a retirement night, and then, to shove it in your guys' face, he returns to play for the astros, and now you guys welcome him back with open arms.you guys must have no honor huh?</div>Yeah, that pissed me off.But you can't hold grudges forever and ever. Well, unless you're a Redsox fan.
Re: Rocket to Sign with Yankees!!!! i mean, the only thing that i can be ok with is the fact that you guys are desperate for a pitcher. you guys are even talking with teh giants for a trade, lol. but otherwise, this is just stupid, i just can understand why you would want him back after he disgraced you guys like that.but, if you are desperate enough, and you can just throw money out like that.vilma, i love how you said ONLY $18mill. God, if i could ONLY get $1mill, id be good. haha

He retired and planned to stay retired except his good friend Andy Pettitte talked him into coming back and he got a sweet deal with the Astros where he didn't have to leave home but a few times a year. He wanted to watch his son pitch, and he got to do that while still with the stros. Why would I blame him for that?
Re: Rocket to Sign with Yankees!!!! I have a hard time seeing a 44 year old pitcher (Who will be 45 in August) who is now re-moving to the best hitting division in baseball putting up great numbers to begin with, nevermind being worth 28 million dollers. I could see him putting up maybe 130 Innings of 4 ERA ball at this point. If that is good enough for the Yankees, who knows.
Re: Rocket to Sign with Yankees!!!! Only Red Sox fans keep grudges.Damon comes to the Yankees? They say he has a weak arm and is inconsistent.Rocket comes back? They say he's over the hill and old.Sox fans are the most idiotic sports fans out there, and living in Maine I'm around them all the time so I know what I'm talking about.

He should throw in the 3.25-3.50 area, with lots of K's. And we'll take that.

New York fans might be arrogant assholes. But we aren't complete retards.

Granted, he came extremely close with a 3.51 ERA in 2001, but the other 4 years his ERA was 4.60, 3.70, 4.35, and 3.95. I tend to think a 4 ERA from him at this point would be great, as I'm only expecting him to pitch at the level he did 5 years ago, not improve upon it like you are projecting.

Re: Rocket to Sign with Yankees!!!! So dumb. He's going to cost the Yankees 26M, b/c he'll cost 8M in luxury taxes FYI.But he's going to break down pretty soon

If he went back to the Astros, they'd have had a valuable pitcher. He gives the Red Sox amazing depth. But on the Yankees, he's too expensive and too old.
Re: Rocket to Sign with Yankees!!!! No, this guy is an old coot. I said the same stuff when he joined the astros last year.
Re: Rocket to Sign with Yankees!!!! Just so everyone knows, when merchandise sales come into the picture, along with an immediate boost in YES signups, it looks like the Rocket is only going to cost the Yankees 2 million dollars (including the luxery tax)..... and that doesn't include all the free media the Yankees got on every network and TV show by signing him (press which would have cost them 10's of millions mre than likely). Source on this is the Dan Patrick Show on ESPN Radio. So if you factor in the free ad dollars, the Yankees actually profited off of signing the highest paid pitcher in the MLB.
