<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Gary Fitzgerald @ Redskins.com)</div><div class='quotemain'>The Redskins have added depth to the tight end corps with the signing of four-year NFL veteran Zach Hilton, the team announced on Monday. The Redskins also signed first-year wide receiver Adrian Madise and released running back Kerry Carter and wide receiver Taylor Sele.Hilton participated in the Redskins' three-day mini-camp from May 4-6. He played with the New Orleans Saints from 2003-05 and the New York Jets last season. Hilton, listed at 6-7 and 262 pounds, originally signed with the Saints as an undrafted rookie. In 2005, he saw extensive playing time, playing in 15 games with six starts. He logged 35 catches for 396 yards and one touchdown.Hilton joins a tight end corps that includes starter Chris Cooley and backups Todd Yoder and Eric Edwards. The Redskins also drafted Michigan tight end Tyler Ecker in the seventh round of the April 28-29 NFL Draft.Hilton grew up in the Washington, D.C., area and attended Our Lady of Good Counsel High School in Wheaton, Md.He played his college ball at North Carolina, where he was a two-year starter and logged 31 career receptions for 346 yards and three touchdowns.Madise, 5-11 and 215 pounds, has had NFL stints with the Tennessee Titans, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Denver Broncos. He was originally selected in the fifth round of the 2003 NFL Draft by the Broncos. He played in 11 games as a rookie with the Broncos. He was released by the Broncos following the 2004 season.Madise played his college ball at Texas Christian.Carter, a third-year player, had signed with the Redskins in January 2006, but he suffered a serious knee ligament injury in preseason last year. With the addition of two undrafted rookie running backs to the roster last week, it was decided to release Carter.Sele had signed with the Redskins on April 30 as an undrafted rookie. After the weekend Rookie Camp, the team decided to release him.</div>WTF? I thought Tyler Ecker was our 3rd stringer. And I guess we're close to signing Al Saunders's man Derrick Blaylock since we release Kerry Carter (who looked great in camp every year).

Never really left the bench so I can't say much about him, but I wouldn't classify him as anything other then someone who will have to compete to even make the team. Blaylock is much of the same. He pretty much proved the last 2 years that he was just a product of one of the Greatest Offensive Lines ever assembled in Kansas City. The guy dances way too much behind the line, and always falls down on first contact. I don't see him beating out Cartwright.

We're probably converting Cartwright back to part-time FB, and that's why Blaylock may sign. Can't he also return punts?

Can he catch? Would he make a good 2nd string 3rd down RB?

I don't see him being a big contributer to an NFL team though.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Redskins Sign Blaylock; Harris Put On IRBy Gary FitzgeraldRedskins.com May 8, 2007The Redskins have signed veteran running back Derrick Blaylock, the team announced on Tuesday. Blaylock is in his sixth NFL season. He participated with the Redskins during the team's three-day Rookie Camp from May 4-6.The Redskins also signed first-year wide receivers Danny Melendez and Kyle Brown on Monday and placed wide receiver Steven Harris on injured reserve.Blaylock, 5-10 and 200 pounds, began his career as a fifth-round draft pick by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2001. He played for associate head coach-offense Al Saunders through 2004."This is a nice opportunity for him to come into an offense that he is familiar with," Saunders said. "He was a very productive player for us in Kansas City. He is a very competitive guy and a very reliable player."Added Blaylock: "I'm familiar with the offense, and there are some great guys here. It's a good team."Blaylock had his best NFL season in 2004, playing in 12 games with five starts. He logged 539 rushing yards on 118 carries, and scored eight touchdowns. He also caught 25 passes for 246 yards and one touchdown. In 2005, Blaylock signed with the New York Jets, but saw limited action the last two seasons. He was released on Feb. 28, 2007.In six seasons, Blaylock has played in 51 games, with eight starts. He has compiled 820 rushing yards on 198 carries, a 4.1 yards-per-carry average, and scored 10 touchdowns. As a receiver, Blaylock has grabbed 53 passes for 520 yards and two TDs.Through the ups and downs of his pro career, Blaylock has stayed committed to playing in the NFL."To me, it's not really about the money," Blaylock told the Associated Press on Sunday. "I love the game. I love playing the game, and right now I'm not ready to be finished playing the game. So that's what drives me to continue to push forward."Blaylock wore jersey No. 47 during the Rookie Camp, but he will be assigned a new jersey number now that he is on the roster.Melendez spent time with the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted rookie. The 6-2, 185-pounder played his college ball at Maryland, where he totaled 61 catches for 891 yards and four touchdowns.Brown also spent time with the Chiefs last year. He is 6-1 and 210 pounds and played at Michigan State, where he played in 42 games and caught 88 passes for 1,329 yards and six TDs.Harris, who spent the last two years on the Redskins' practice squad, suffered a knee ligament injury while participating in the Rookie Camp. He was waived on Monday, then re-signed to the roster and placed on injured reserve.</div>
